Got a great deal in Texas on stellantis vehicle Wisconsin resident. I booked my flight for this Friday and I asked for a review copy of the documents I would be signing before I get on the airplane.
I found three errors in the lease contract. The first one is the department of motor vehicle fees are short, which, if they don’t fix will result in a bunch of back-and-forth and a delay in my plates and likely expiry of my Dealer drive away tag.
The second one is that the taxes appear too high, which would lower the payment if corrected.
Neither one of these are dealbreaker. I’m just wondering how they get handled once the contract gets sent to the captive.
The last one is a dealbreaker as the lease says that I agree to purchase 30,000 miles at the end of the lease for $.17 a mile, which is about $5100 and indicated to them that they need to take that out before I will sign it.
I have been trying to get the documents revised for these errors since last Friday and Time is getting to be a little short so I figured I would post it up on here for any advice so that I can execute upon it tomorrow and Thursday in the hopes of corrected documents. All other important elements of the lease look accurate although the rebate line is about $1100 more than what I had expressed to them that I qualify for.
What does this mean? Aren’t you getting 30k miles and anything over that limit, you’ll have to pay $.17 a mile?
What are the terms or the lease?
Did you tell them that they need to register the vehicle in Wisconsin? Did they agree to it? I would let the dealer handle the dmv fees and not get involved in it.
Same question. Are you sure their taxes are wrong? What % should the taxes be in your county and what do they have on contract?
I agree with @anique here, this more than likely reads that any mileage in excess of 30,000 or 30,015 if they account for the 15 that are probably on the vehicle will be charged at .17 / per mile. This is standard boiler plate language on a lease.
I can agree to have them send the department of motor vehicle fees short but then they’re gonna send it back to the dealer and it’s gonna take extra time and by that time the drive away tag will be expired.
The taxes in Wisconsin are fairly simple. It’s 5% the total monthly payments and 5% on the rebates, and the figure that they have in the lease is too high.
If I can the miles at end corrected will the other items just work out over time? There will be back-and-forth between the dealer and the department of motor vehicles and then I would think the captive would recognize that the taxes aren’t correct and will want a deal resigned?
If they refused to correct the department of motor vehicle fee, I was gonna try and mitigate that by asking them to give me two consecutive driveaway tags for extra time. And then, as far as overpayment of the taxes, I would think I would get that refunded? If we don’t re-sign the document at a lower payment once corrected
Me too. Just make sure the deal is funded by then otherwise they won’t release the car. Looks like this dealer is not very knowledgeable that’s why I mentioned it.
Yes, thank you one of the other Jeep dealers did mention that for all out of state leases they want you to DocuSign and then wait for funding to make sure that they don’t need the contract signed again. In this particular case they want me to sign on site so that would imply it won’t be funded. So thank you for pointing this out. I will have to ask them.
I’ve leased several cars from out of state and in all instances it has taken the dealers 2 or 3 passes to get the taxes and anything else state specific correct. I’m in NC with an equally simple tax structure.
Tell them to fix the taxes before you sign, this is not something to fix later.
I just leased a Jeep out of state. I had to resign the paperwork twice because they messed it up. On the final version, the monthly taxes were wrong. Stellantis sent me a letter saying they were lowering the payment automatically to the correct amount. So, I wouldn’t worry about it, if the monthly tax rate is wrong.
This contract/deal needs to be correct before you sign. Fixing it after the fact is risky at best. We’ve had too many posts on this forum with out of state dealer mistakes on contracts and the nightmare it was for the leasee to rectify it.
How are you handling your DAS? Cash, check, cashier’s check, credit card? Will the dealer even release the vehicle to you unless the funds have cleared. I’ve done a few remote deals and each time the dealer wanted the money wired to them and cleared before they would release the car to an out-of-town purchaser.
I owe first pmt at signing and have not specified how to pay the $230. I did ask sales manager about funding and he said since the docusign is not working they will release car wo funding.
No - the deal is a 24 15k and he added the section about me purchasing addl 30 k at 17 cents on his own. Which is why it is deal breaker if not removed.
I don’t mean to be a Debbie Downer but this just has disaster written all over it. Seems like there are so many errors in this contract. I’d be afraid to get a plane and go down to TX if this isn’t corrected before departure. The only time I flew somewhere to pick up a vehicle, the deal was signed and funded before I left Dallas. No loose ends to tie up at the dealer.
