New Honda Pilot

Looks like the redesigned Pilot reviews are out now - here’s one of them: 2023 Honda Pilot First Look: Better-looking, more rugged, more family friendly - Autoblog

From reading a few of the articles, it looks like Honda reconfigured the interior and also added a few inches to the length. I do like the new second row configuration - pretty neat. Also, it looks more like a SUV now compared to the current iteration.

I’m curious on the starting price as we all know MSRPs are raising exponentially.

Kinda looks like a Highlander. And the Trail Sport looks like a Durango. lol

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, where is a hybrid option for the Pilot? Honda has no excuse for not offering a hybrid option at this point, and they’ll lose a ton of sales as long as they do so.

Agree - Honda doesn’t seem to want to offer hybrid variants across all their model lineups as Toyota does. Feel like a lotta people would spring for a hybrid Pilot, Odyssey etc

Does this also mean the Ridgeline is being updated? A wider body would be welcome.

Yep. That underfloor compartment could be used for like batteries to make it a PHEV.

I think the exterior is pretty bad, esp in the lighter (and matte?) color. It looks sort of like a caricature of a bigger SUV. The rear windows are also giving me some Isuzu vibes.

Interior styling seems good enough, and the seat storage design seems quite inventive.

I’ve seen claims in reviews that the engine is “new”. Curious how much of an update it actually received.

Second row center seat is the same design as the MDX (may even be the same exact seat). It’s a great idea I just wish you maintained some sort of armrest when the seat was removed.

god that looks so dreadfully bland. i don’t know what i was expecting but it certainly was something much more than that.

But it’s the hottest….Honda Pilot ever.

It is remarkable how they manage to design cars that elicit no response one or the other. I don’t love it I don’t hate it. I kind of don’t care kind of like my refrigerator.

its impressive how little work they put in on the CR-V and Pilot “redesigns”. the cars basically look identical inside and out except for some minor cosmetic and tech changes.

It went from SOHC to DOHC, so that it kind of significant, no? (I’m not an engine [or mechanical] person, so I don’t know)

I think they look totally different from the previous gen. I think the CR-V is undoubtedly improved, while the Pilot is, as you mentioned, SO BLAND (on the outside at least).

Well, that’s probably why Hondas sell so well!

That’s the demographic though. Corolla, Pilot, RAV4, Highlander. They’re all appliances. Buyers don’t care how they drive, they just want transportation, seats, cup holders, and fuel economy.

I don’t know about you but I like this redesign except rear quarter window and tail lights. Compared to current model it’s day and night. I also like that they kept v6 Honda doesn’t have a hybrid system with enough juice to move this thing effectively. I get around 20mpg in NYC driving with my 2020 currently so an increase to 25 would be nice but then again I was getting same mpg in my 2017 CRV.

We’re bringing a Hybrid Pilot later in 23, the v6 will stay in it as well.

with a 3.5 v6 how could they ever get close to 25mpg city on this thing?

a bit more info and different pics/preview here

I didn’t say purely city driving. My average is for a mix 70/30. Some level of electric assist would get this there easily.
