Military guy that may get deployed next year. Thinking of leasing. Is this smart?

I was going to lease and then once I receive deployment orders break it using the SCRA.

This is my first lease. Do I need any of the extra coverages if it is going to be for such a short period of time? Should I sign up for the longest term to get lower payments.

I’m okay with a bit of a higher payment in order to get a nice vehicle and then buying after I get back.

I have been overseas and just now realizing that the car market had exploded since I’ve been gone. If I go 48 months, I’ll end up paying 5k (no money down option).

I’m okay with that, rather than spending on an older car and then have issues with it that could exceed that amount.

I’m not ready to buy and also don’t want to buy and then store a car for the time I’m on deployment.

Any thoughts on this quote? Tips on what I need or don’t need to ask for in the deal. Again this is my first time. Appreciate any insight you could provide. Thank you.

This lease should be a no go honestly .

That’s a terrible lease.

Even if it will likely only be for a year and then broken with no penalty?

Yes, it’s still horrible.

This definitely has me reconsidering.

Well, I’m glad I asked. I was about to sign up for it tomorrow. I’ll probably rent for another week or two and try to find a better deal.

I’m new to this and still trying to figure out what “right” looks like. I’ve never had to negotiate a car deal before.

Working out what “right” looks like is definitely the first step. Spend a little time looking at broker offerings in the marketplace here to help give you an idea.

Kias, especially the more popular models, tend to make very poor lease candidates. You could easily get yourself a nice grand cherokee for less, etc.

Fixed it for ya:

In all seriousness, please don’t do this. I can probably get you into a base 3 series demo for the almost the same money, this monthly payment just doesn’t make sense for a 35k car, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg here.

Can you recoup all the fees even if you can break the lease? That’s a lot of money especially full tax in VA.

The pre-deployment special

I didn’t know there was stipulation in a lease contract to let you off of your financial obligation in the event you deploy for the military.

What other things can you get out of? Just curious that’s all.

Thank you for your service by the way.

How much would the i4 be than this?

Problem is the VA taxes, but he’s not far off, a base i4 would be like 630 with 1k due at signing in VA.

Would love a Jeep Grand Cherokee! I’ll look into their deals.

Is that including the 500-2000 military incentive?

You’re doing my job better than me right now

No, it’s not, but I believe it’s 500 on a lease.

Not sure about all of the fees. I believe so. Here is a link to the legal statute:

You can break your apartment lease contract without penalty in FL. Probably same in all states.
