At $600, I would get one to sit in the driveway with a depleted battery.

The energy density of batteries is currently sufficient for some light duty applications only. A Model 3 is a good replacement for a Camry because you donā€™t need that much energy at the end of the day to transport just 5 people and current battery tech can keep up. On bigger heavier vehicles like Hummer EV or full size trucks it gets much harder. How big of a battery do you need to provide the same range as a tank of diesel for a 3/4t truck towing a trailer? That battery is going to have to be huge and very expensive.

If you think current infrastructure is bad, wait until EVs make up the majority of vehicles. DCFC stations running 10 350kw chargers at once are going to use as much juice as small towns.

At that price Iā€™d have two. One to drive while the second charging.

Charging challenges are major.

Every time Iā€™ve done a longer drive in an EV it makes me want to cry, arrive at charging station, theres a line, 3 of them are broken, 3 more have boltā€™s charging at 0.5kw, 2 more are at 90% charge but staying there because ā€œ30 minutes freeā€.

Iā€™ve ventured out exactly once in Columbus to charge our EV at a public station.

No problem finding an open charger, the problem was 3 of the 3 closest locations to home, all different networks, werenā€™t working at all.

ā€¦ which is really frustrating to learn after downloading yet another app, creating an account, loading in a payment card, etc.

So I drove back home and plugged it into the 110 garage outlet like we always do.

I really didnā€™t need much of a charge, I was mainly scouting local high-speed options in case we ever needed to charge up quickly.

I gave up before I found one.

Whoā€™s going to fk around all day doing this?

Are we still talking about G-Wagons? Are we really saying the average G-Wagon owner is going to use public charging? This thread has become confusing.

Charging is an obvious issue. I would however argue EV is better for anyone having at least a level 2 at home. I say this after I was given an E350 loaner while servicing my eqe. I couldnt believe how rough it felt to drive.

Reminder: The vast majority of EV drivers in the US just find a Tesla Supercharger, which are everywhere and have 90%+ uptime, and plug their Teslas in with no drama at all. Itā€™s just a small minority of egg-shaped car aficionados here that are having all the issues lol.

These start at like $150k.

We arenā€™t talking about Spectre drivers here. Good lord.

Last time I charged at the EA station at Fashion Valley in San Diego there were two Taycan Turbos plugged in.

:100::100: - Hoping to see someone post a lease ā€œdealā€ on a G-Wagon EV.

People with Gs never venture beyond a 200 mile radius of their house?

Even people who donā€™t spend $2,500+ per month on a G wagon lease have other cars that are better suited to road trips.

And value their time accordingly.

My last DCFC was close by and cost me $8 for 32 KwH. The idea that Iā€™d drive further and wait in line at an EA to save sub $8 is preposterous to me.

YMMV.

You guys must know some really cheap G wagon owners.

Agreed. Like an airplane.

I would bet that the average G Wagon driver isnā€™t really in a financial position to do so.

This parallels how a lot of luxury goods are marketed and consumed.

This topic getting hot, hope deals also get hot soon

Thatā€™s what Launch Mode in the iX M60 does: noise and seat rumbles.

Iā€™m so confused on the logic of ev owners here. 1 week with mine and using EA i immediately found solution to double the charging of 110 and used a splitvolt. I even bought a 25 foot extension cord to run from my 240v outlet to the garage. I was very happy with this scenario for months until i accidentally shorted the splitvolt charger because it was exposed to rain. So i replaced again and realized it actually busted the breaker. At this point we were a full ev household and i didnā€™t want to inconvenience the wife, so after 2 weeks of dealing with charging 2 evs at stations (i thought EA was annoying until i used wifeys evgo)ā€¦ Anyway i paid electrician to bury charger with 60amp breaker and now we get 19kwh, best decision ever and 2k is not that much for the peace it brings.

People driving 150k+ ev cars but waiting hours at chargers or being frustrated makes no sense.
