I had a similar interaction with an F&I person at a Honda dealer. I was buying a new Fit. She tried the scare tactics and I said [something like] “Listen, the only reason I’m even buying this is for the reliability and low operating costs. If it is going to cause problems, I might as well get a better car elsewhere. So what were you saying about unexpected repairs?” She just smiled and stopped talking about it.

I would expect watch collector forums to have an older crowd though whereas I’d think car/lease hacking forums is a more functional thing that I’d assume younger people are more into. I’d expect older people to be more like “I don’t have time for this” or it’s too complicated, as it is with travel points hacking.
Obv my take could be completely wrong - we should do a poll.
