My wife came home with a ding on the door, someone left a note saying that the wind pushed the door into ours. I checked Kia lease end pre-inspection site and they estimate $225 per ding. That seems cheaper than me trying to repair it, ding is about an inch, maybe 1/4” deep. And the insurance doesn’t get involved. What am I not seeing? I don’t plan on keeping it, just don’t want surprises when I return it.
Is there a damage allowance?
On the previous lease, there was like $800 allowance for leasing a new Kia?
How big is the damage, smaller than a credit card?
Try going down the paintless dent removal if its just a ding and paint is still intact.
No the paint is gone
1” x 1/8” x 1/4”
If smaller than a golf ball should be ok
Okay, thanks for the assurance
As long as you can live with the ding then just let it go for now. Get the lease end inspection at the end of your term, it will most likely be just normal wear and tear, no charge. If there were to be any charge you can make the call at that point, either pay it and be done, or get it fixed on your own.
Thanks for the reply, I’m okay with living with the ding. My only concern is, if I can get $225 from the person who caused the damage, I will not incur any more payment when I return the car.
I don’t know where my wife took the car for the estimate but I think they’re trying to take advantage of the situation
Oh wow lol. Can you post a picture of the ding? PDR would be around $200-300 I’m guessing, but since there’s paint missing you’d need more. Could you use touch up paint?
If you can live with it I’d just see what they say at turn in. How much longer do you have on lease?
I have 17 months left
It’s deep, I don’t think it should cost $2000 but I’m not sure if it can be fixed for $225, which is why I asked. Could Kia deny that this of not a ding but a gouge and it would me more than $225?
Pics or nothing happened. I mean nothing can be said unless members can see what the damage is.
$2000 is nuts for a door ding.
17 months is a long time to live with it. I’d get some more quotes and see how receptive the other party is to reimbursing. I think they’d balk at $2000.
The inspector isn’t going to over-analyze the door ding or take 3-D imagery showing how deep it is or anything like that. They’re going to take a quick measurement and move on to the next item. If it falls within bounds of normal wear and tear then it will be no charge, highly likely for a 1" ding. If they do charge you, then I can’t imagine it would be more than $100-$200.
Sikes that not a ding. More like a dingratch !
I would not send the Mrs. But go yourself to get quotes from a couple of reputable non brand body shops and get whatever closest cash you can get from the people who hit it.
Get it fixed close to end of ur lease return time.
That’s like a daily occurrence for my wife at my kid’s school parking lot. I’d see if you can buff it out so it’s not so noticeable and then just let it go. I’m just happy when the person has the class to leave a note.
