When all will be said and done it will be proven to be even lover…maybe x2 of the regular flu…which is still a considerable number but not worth the panic it created. The funny thing is people want to talk “facts and numbers” but they don’t have either…on both sides of the discussion. Hopefully they will take full advantage of the summer months and stack up and build hospital capacity so we don’t do this crap all over again…i truly enjoyed the stock market ride, it’s the news cycle that gets me and people’s reaction (conscious or unconscious) to it…fucking tired of it!
.5% mortality rate is 50000 of 10 million, in 2 months. That’s a lot of freaking people no matter how you look at it. I don’t believe every life is precious, but to say .5% is nothing is silly. When .5% of the population is dying and say 3% are getting infected. How much of a normal economy can you really have? You are still going to have businesses losing money left and right. Now we have the food processor going down because of the virus out in the midwest, how is staying open working out?
If we want to start opening, train people to use masks and teach people how to have better hygiene instead of fighting and bickering to support your team’s stance.
AUD is up big time because they are now in a safe spot where they can reopen the economy. No amount of stimulus is going to help if the virus is still around, even if you think getting a few percentage of the people sick and dying is okay.
What I have a problem on either side is when people try to skew the numbers to prove their opinions. Doesn’t matter if you’re for or against all these shutdowns.
We have incomplete statistics right now, it’s hard to go by evidence based practice when we’re short on the evidence. This is why I’m leery about the hydroxchloroquine treatments. Until we have a massive double blind study that addresses all the common biases, we don’t know of it works or not - this is going to take a long time.
On the economy and the shutdowns and the cure being worse than the disease, that’s also debatable because again, the data is incomplete.
We will have a clearer picture within the next year, but until then, I can see both sides of the aisle and their arguments being valid.
I hope they plan as well.
Did you see how they beat the virus though? They took early actions by treating with anti virals. And i did not say .5% is acceptable. Just pointing out that some faulty numbers are going into this whole thing.
Not much on this team or that team. Everybody shares in blame. Trump, Congress, Governors, useless intelligence community, but most importantly China and WHO. I am just stating things i have read. But its a sad day when even cures are politicized. Because NY and NJ messed up does not mean other states need to remain on lockdown. Love the wall to wall coverage for hcq to prove it does not work but no coverage where it worked. I dont care if its hcq, anti hiv drug, gilead drug, or something else. Be fair and report appropriately and with no bias just to dunk on trump or to support trump.
And again, Miami Dade is 2.7 million population but has a mortality rate of .01% right now on population size. Should they be in lockdown forever? Florida took thousands and upon thousands of NYers in march as they escaped NY but still doing better? Why? Should they stay home? Hot spots and high risk populations should take precautions. Rest lets get moving. In addition, maybe we should look at mortality by age group. We will see for those below 55 years the rate drops significantly.
It also helps they are still in summer. And yes I blame China and WHO too, many mistakes by government officials to try to prop up the stock market.
There should be plans to open up the market in sections and in a smart way, but I don’t think people are really thinking that way. You think a local Applebee is going to be the same as normal? Car dealerships going back to their old ways? I am sorry, there is no chance of that happening. Maybe if you live in a place where everyone marries their cousins and have an IQ for 90.
I just read the email that Costco is going back to normal hours, but they are making masks mandatory. It’s still not as good as nationwide testing, but it is a start.
So you saying people smart enough to social distance without draconian government measures? Case in point for Sweden. Never closed, put some measures in place but people did do social distancing on their own with public transport ridership down by 50% and such.
Such a nasty thing to say about certain places though. Not sure your comment there but such disparaging comments are plain wrong.
Places wont be the same but people can be smart on their own. Again, nothing about how australia beat it with early treatment as well? Or other countries close to China? From the looks of it only NY and NJ screwed it up.
Oh well allow me to retort
“When I said we need to listen to doctors and scientists, I meant the ones that I agree with.”
Exactly, In Dr. Phil we trust.
Funny how people talk about the low death rate VS. infection rate when they don’t even know the true death rate. So many people die from this disease without being tested it’s mind boggling.
I don’t even know where to begin, so many experts and so many opinions, what is little casual reader like me supposed to make out of this hoopla? No one knows shit about nothing, in the mean time this God damn virus continues to ravage societies around the world while we are still bickering.
There are experts and there are “experts”. Do your research thoroughly, you got time. However, as soon as you hear someone say “lockdown = slavery”, or “death of a few is better than stock market crash” etc, politely tell them: “Let me stop you right there.”
Are people truly smart enough? Did you not see the spring break parties at the beach? Who was the famous guy that said he would rather die partying at the beach? https://www.cbsnews.com/news/spring-break-party-coronavirus-pandemic-miami-beaches/
Some places definitely go overboard with the rules, but some are in place so people don’t become total asshole and be out of line. Forget about all the infected and everything aside, do you truly believe things would be normal if we had stayed open? Who is going to the bowling alley? Who is going to eat at the local BBQ joint? Who is going to gamble other than your hardcore 20%?
Sweden’s death rate is higher than Norway and Denmark. I don’t have a problem with people dying, but you better make it worth while to kill them. It would be sad to have people die and have nothing in return. Also you can have a case where you overwhelm the hospitals and turn into Italy.
Speaking of Sweden, have you been there? Their cultures are a lot different than ours. In the city of Gothernburg, there are barely any street lights. People go around and they have enough respects for others that they don’t need traffic lights. As I said, a small percentage of people usually ruins it for everyone. They come in both liberals and conservatives.
No just some east coast states really. SK, Hong Kong, Japan, Australia, ME countries are in a great position given the situation.
Sweden still lower than UK, Italy, or Belgium for that matter. I have family in Sweden so I have a sense. Plenty of states that are rural like that in the US. Why should they close down? And you mention Florida. Man FL is doing way better than NY or NJ from my understanding. I dont agree with the speed Georgia is opening up but certain states go too far. Like MI from stopping people to buy seeds for planting. I mean seriously?
Maybe this should be re-said as, So many people are dying and being reported as COVID deaths, without being tested to confirm they even had COVID.
Now many municipalities are going back and have to adjust their reported numbers, since they were being pressured to report as many deaths as possible to be COVID caused, but now they are being tasked w/ proving their data.
Please share your source for this. Every article I’ve seen say that deaths have been underreported. Also would like to get your response to @Supakimchee and his rebuttal of your ER doctors video.
Funny how people talk about how many deaths when they don’t even know how many deaths.
The biggest issue here is people jumping to conclusions without any actual data. That cuts both ways.
Not everybody will get the disease. Viruses don’t work that way. On the cruise ships and carriers it was 10-20% infection rate. No virus is 100%, not even measles or tuberculosis, both of which are far, far more contagious
There has been a fair amount of news reporting that many hospitals were diagnosing patients and deaths to COVID, based on their assumptions and symptoms presented, without having done a test for COVID.
