In my area (Seattle), Hyundai Venue and Hyundai Kona seem to have decent availability. Neither of those two are my first choices but I am really fed up with current market. So, decided to go with the approach of looking at availability numbers and choosing a decent enough car. Both models are being offered at MSRP by almost all dealers without any markup. I am mostly considering financing Hyundai Venue Limited ($23K).
Is that car at MSRP a good deal? (I am going to try to negotiate the prices bit further but thats what I got so far)
Any feedback about the car in general?
My usage is very low. But not having a car is pretty limiting. That’s why just looking for a decent enough car.
My other options were
Venue SE - $20K
Kona SE -$24K - this was initially my first choice among these three but all Konas available in 250 mi radius are AWDs and thus costlier. I personally feel that AWD is not required in this area for my usage so don’t want to pay extra $1.5K for it.
I’m biased, but it’s just hard for me to take the Venue seriously.
Get the Kona and get a AWD one if necessary. That’s an option that usually has good resale value, which will cost you a lot less than $1,500 in depreciation.
And makes it easier to sell private or trade when the time comes.
Two local dealers offered me Kia Soul LX with Tech package for ~22.5K, with final OTD of 26K. (Those are the only two with decent numbers to talk. Others start with sell price of 26K).
Thinking of closing the deal with one of those two dealers. Any thoughts? Does it sound like a good deal?
Unfortunately, there is nothing off MSRP Kia Soul LX with tech package goes for 21.5K MSRP (including destination charges).
It looks both the dealers have approximately 1-2K markup. It’s just that rest of the dealers are going crazy with markups and those two are relatively decent. I am still going against my aim of not paying over MSRP but I am honestly fed up trying to find decent deal in last two months with not much luck.
Well I am going to finance it as I have read multiple times on this forum that leasing may not be a good option currently.
I have tried posting there in past but no response. But i will try again. Overall, northwest region does not seem to have much going on here. At least, that’s how it feels like to me.
True but could not find decent deals on leases either. @forbs was kind enough to send me link about lease deals in SoCal but looks like they don’t allow WA residents to lease Kia from them
I guess I will keep digging some more. I really appreciate this community genuinely trying to help so much.
If you’re going to finance it, I’d probably be looking at something like a Toyota Corolla Cross (if you can find one at MSRP?) It’s probably going to retain value better than a Venue or a Soul would, especially given your usage and is equally as uninspiring to drive.
If you were comparing a RAV4 to an equivalent Kia, I’d agree with you 100%
But the Corolla Cross has way less brand equity at the moment: it’s just too new and also rather confusingly spun off from a nameplate that is associated with sedans and hatchbacks.
900 - non tax fee (explained as estimated registration cost, when asked - was planning to negotiate this in person if needed)
150 - doc fee
2400 - tax (10.5%)
Chat is useless, call, he’s so busy that Texts and Chats are dropped.
Ask him about a purchase option up in SF, and see if you can drive down and pick it up.
Not sure if I agree though, the Corolla name arguably has the most name recognition of the entire brand and piggy backing off that is a far better prospect than a Hyundai Venue that very few people have even heard of let alone recognise. If I was financing (which I try to avoid at all costs - I’d stick with the boring but tried and tested Toyota/Honda/Lexus cliche. But I’m getting off the point of helping the OP
