Keep in mind that dealerships, especially non luxury ones, are having the same issues finding employees as restaurants and other industries that laid off a ton of people during the pandemic. If you are a natural salesman or have certain skills selling cars is a good job where you can make a lot of money. But for most people it kind of sucks. You work long hours with unpredictable pay and often in hostile work environment. For people who are either getting unemployment or have any other decent job options selling cars isnt that appealing right now. No different than being restaurant work or other seasonal work.
Understood!! I sold the S/O’s Lexus lease that had like 4 months left. After that I reached out to a local dealer via my method described. Needless to say they wouldn’t budge so I ended up contacting a broker here who also happens to be local.
He managed to get me an even better deal (a true Zero DAS not even s nickel at signing) on the same car the same dealer wouldn’t accept my offer on lol. Where there’s a will, there’s always a way, I am done bothering finding cars on my own in SFL. I have my go to Brokers now for BMW/Lexus which is all I foresee driving in the near future.
I do agree that asking for RV and MF from a dealer is not necessary to put together a target deal, but when the calculator is 30-50$ off and all other values are the same, any markup should be transparent. I have sent offers with and without MF included in emails, and more often than not the replies from emails without MF say something like “how do you know if the money factor is right since websites like leasehackr only reports old data.” Sample size of 1, but nevertheless.
Just something I notice when dealers provide quotes. When helping a relative a month ago on an Audi deal, my request for money factor was met with “that’s not really important” and “it doesn’t really change the numbers all that much.” When you go from 0.00005 to .00135, it kind of does .
Be more straightforward. Admittedly I didn’t even read all that, and I wouldn’t expect the internet sales department to either without initially establishing what you want and how likely you are to buy from them. It’s better to tell them I’m simply looking for x and presenting the rest of the information during follow-up communication.
Coming out from the start and asking for their best discount makes it look like you’re emailing every dealer in the area, which you likely are and are entitled to do. The average dealer doesn’t want to give their best price and for it to be shopped around. I’d also delete all the sentiment about not wasting time.
When I get a response like that to an offer, I know what they’re actually saying is “no”, so I just move on. They know the number. I know the number. If they want to try to play like I’m stupid to try to manipulate the conversation, there is no reason to continue the conversation.
Valid point. I would figure that most modern dealerships have moved past these antiquated sales tactics. Nobody pulls out the Kelly Blue Book Used Car Guide on paperback anymore, all of the data people need to put a car deal together is online.
Bingo! when local Lexus dealer comes back telling me BS and that they won’t accept my offer without me putting X more dollars on the table. I didn’t bother responding, at that moment I knew there was no point in communicating further since my preposition was firm.
My initial email explicitly made clear what my terms were and that if they would accept we would execute transaction immediately. Since they refused, there was nothing else to convey. However, for some reason they continuously sent me emails which I never answered and proceeded to enlist them as spam.
I’ll usually thank them for their time and try to leave things that way. Can help with the spam follow up and it doesn’t burn the bridge in case I need to readjust my targets if no one will bite.
With all the respect, your first sentence sound exactly like a “Nigerian Prince email”
I am active duty military … blabla
Yes in your case it’s the truth, but to much of scammers are using this lines, i will get rid of it.
One solution is to begin or follow up the conversation with a phone call.
A normal American phone number with a normal American accent speaking normal American English is an easy way to allay some of those “Nigerian prince” worries.
I will keep this info for later on, after you have the dealer engaged in a back in forth emails, only then after the trust is already establish, then you could say, btw i will have my wife/father in law passe by …
…Then, more of this lol
THEM: This is Rxxxx Sxxxx from XXX Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram. I am the Internet Sales Manager here at XXXX.
I see you are looking for the Wrangler. Great news, I double checked our system and it is still available!
Can I schedule an appointment for you to come in and see it?
ME: Hello Rxxx,
Thank you for the prompt response. Before I come in-can we confirm the details for a lease: 36/10K with a buy rate MF .00203 with CCAP RV 65% if you can send me a lease proposal with Sale price before any rebates etc, that would be a great starting point for me. I also have another lease if conquest is available-(My initial e-mail request stated that I would do $1K DAS and $330-$350/mo on a $55K MSRP)
THEM: (A week goes by before this e-mail)
Good Morning,
Just wondering if you were still interested in the Wrangler you inquired about?
ME: Hello Rxxxx,
I never got a response to my previous e-mail about a lease proposal for this vehicle… if you can send me one I will let you know right away and can sign as soon as Monday
Thank you,
THEM: Have you gotten any responces from any other dealers? I would assume that by now you would have and I thought you probably already purchased one. Because of the limited supply of vehicles in inventory at most dealerships we are not giving out any figures on any vehicles. We really have to get together in person and make sure I have a vehicle in stock that you want to purchase. (As he stated in first e-mail-VEHICLE was available-why the whole run around again haha)
ME:Thank you for your time, Rxxx
I am in no rush, maybe in the near future I will revisit the idea when inventory improves.
Have a great weekend
Thank you,
***Wrangler is still sitting on their lot, unsold-perhaps better deal to just order one instead of inventory…wasn’t gonna keep it anyway-just flip it so monthly wouldn’t matter as much
I have no direct experience to know this, but I feel whatever lead software is used to track responses is too difficult or time consuming for many salespeople to bother to look at the history. I couldn’t even count the number of times I reply to say I’ve leased elsewhere, then a few days later another email asking me to come in.
