I couldn’t find an answer to this in other topics, so,… apologies if it seems obvious…
I’m working on a lease transfer and wondering how to be sure there are no issues for the car I would be getting relative to the lease? In other words, I know the mileage and can see cosmetics, but anything else? Should I have them take it to a mechanic? Get a letter from a dealer stating it currently meets lease specs?
Ask the seller to take the car to a local dealer for an inspection, cosmetic and mechanical. You will obviously have to pay the cost of the inspection which will be a few hundred dollars depending on the manufacturer
As Bumboola mentioned about the only thing you can realistically do is have the seller take the car to a dealer or local mechanic for a pre-purchase inspection on your dime. If the seller seems trustworthy and the pics look ok then this is probably an overkill.
What is the make/model/year in question?
By default a lease transfer will be on a new-ish car that should still have some warranty left, so short of something fluke happening there really shouldn’t be any mechanical issues to worry about. This isn’t some 15 year old used car you’re buying.
The only wear and tear item I would be sure to ask about is the tires.
Thanks for the recommendation on Lemonsquad. Thanks for the affirmation. Seems kind of silly as new and low miles as the car is, but a small price to pay for the insurance/assurance that it’s not a bad deal.
Also, not “very compelling” and “getting hosed” are two different things. I missed out on another, which was more compelling and do need a new car. Everything is a compromise, this checks most of my boxes. Still, I’m curious why you don’t think it’s very compelling. Because it’s not a steal?
I don’t think you’re getting hosed. They were never “cheap” leases anyway.
I think @max_g is alluding to is the fact that you’re paying for 1400 miles a month on this lease. Will you be using that many miles? If not, you’re essentially paying for miles/depreciation you’ll never see the benefit of.
If you like a Mach E then this is a good deal. Mach E just doesn’t lease as well as other EVs so this is what I have seen brokers offering it for.
Personally, I am not a big fan of Mach E, so I would rather target a sub $300 EQB, or a sub 250 Blazer/Equinox. Or any of the other cheaper leases on EVs. June numbers have still not come out yet though.
Why put so much effort into this? And then wait for a transfer to be completed and hope no snafu to get plates?
If you’re willing to wait for a transfer (and deal with the most efficient transfer department) then there’s a i4 M50 deal that blows this away.
If you want a car by this weekend then check Marketplace for Ariya, Equinox, Lyric, ZDX, etc. for a lot better value (lower payment and/or more features).
I will likely need to pay for going over on miles. I’m not sure how anybody can stay under 10k on those leases. So, yes, will need every one of those miles and need to drive my beater to not go over.
So much effort??? I haven’t completed it yet, but I dont’ think it will be any more effort than getting a car another way other than having to drive 3 hr to get it.
As I said, checks a bunch of my boxes… a coupe is not one of them.
Have you driven an equinox, Lyric, ZDX? Regardless, I started out looking for Prologues and ZDXs… where are you finding deals that are better than this? it’s effectively a new car (7k miles) and I’m not paying any depreciation, just using it for $450 a month? I think you’re just being argumentative for the sake of being argumentative. The options you present are definitely not “very compelling” if you ask me.
again, … those sub $250 vehicles are not terribly compelling to me. AND… are any of them actually available for sub $250? I started looking at EVs about 4 months ago and got baited by the promo $250 headlines. I did not find one vehicle available for less than $400/mo and most wanted down payment. Now maybe with a lot of work I could have found the 1 in 10 dealers I need to deal with to get that unicorn deal, but that seems like a heck of a lot more work than what I ended up doing. In my opinion, the Mach E is a pretty good value, especially 2024 where they redid the rear motor. Honestly, the new Tesla Ys are “compelling” deals, but my wife won’t let me give Elon any of our money… anyway,… sounds like I’m not getting hosed, just some people that don’t like Mach Es?
Yes. You can check the marketplace. You can also ask in the wanted section:
I am not sure what you have been doing. But I would guess there’s something wrong with the approach. I signed one 3 months ago (effective $109/month) just by simply messaging a dealer from the LH marketplace. I didn’t even need a car so I offloaded an older lease and grabbed a new one. If you don’t want the hassle of messaging dealers your offer, you can just get a pre-negotiated deal or get a broker advertised deal like I did.
Since you haven’t shared your location, I am not sure what’s available in your area. But if I was in the market for a car, I would go sign a lease on this one which is close to me, is a decent car, and a tempting price. Just listed today:
But If you do like a Mach E, then the deal you are getting is decent.
You can also keep an eye out on PND, they would populate for June in a few days:
I only found Lease Hacker about 2 week ago, so, the deals here are new to me. That being said, I did scour what was available and I am in Michigan which creates limitations for what is available. There are some nationwide deals, but more are Cali or East coast and even if they will ship to Michigan, they you’re paying for shipping, which from what I’ve found would be about $2k from Cali. I looked at the ZDX deals posted in marketplace, but most were conquest and other things that didn’t apply. So, there may be some deals below $200, but it’s not like they fall out of trees for somebody living in Michigan. I’ve spent a fair bit of time the past few months working on this. Local dealers are a nightmare. This site has been an enormous help and I actually almost got a lease on a more compelling Mach E in the Private Transfer section, but it fell through. Anyway, the point is, … .yes, there may be some cars available for less money, but In Michigan, without Conquest,… needing 15k miles (probably more) and wanting a car that is an “SUV” and “funnish to drive”… that limits the available options. I do appreciate the education I’ve been getting at this site though. Most people are getting absolutely fleeced on their leases.
I should also reiterate, a lease for $200 with 10k miles is going to cost me an extra $5 k after two years, so, those “cheap” deals are not as cheap to me. I need the miles.
