How naive am I?

Id agree with your mileage range. Wife and I have a 2008 Civic for a second car/city car. Probably drive it 3K-5K miles a year. I maintain it right and it has worked perfectly for a decade. People here love warranties which I have never gotten much use from. But if i was buying used I would buy a CPO even if it was only a year warranty By CPOIng it, the dealer has skin in the game since if you need a new transmission in six months they are now going to lose a lot of money on the deal. So dealers have to actually inspect the cars before CPOing them. Then just maintain it right and it should last a long time if you only drive 3K miles a year.

Dealer has nothing to do with CPO warranty other than inspecting it supposedly. Manufacturer pays for warranty repairs just like with factory warranty. You can get cpo warranty work at any dealer just like with factory warranty.

Thatā€™s correct, I conflated the inspection and the warranty. Dealer does CPO inspection but manufacturer provides actual warranty. But itā€™s the same difference, dealer has to be somewhat careful as Iā€™m sure any manufacturer would be unhappy if a dealer kept CPOing cars that needed expensive repairs.

Okay, the Corolla is $59/mo with $1,000 down, plus you pay the huge (probably MA wide) doc fee of $479 in the drive-off, first payment, etc = $2,188 out of pocket, which would be plus $750 for you because you donā€™t qualify for the college grad rebate = $2,938 + tax and license. Finance say $2K more at $115-120/mo.

I donā€™t know if MA charges tax on the monthly payment or on some other amount. Hopefully you can handle $120/mo vs $100/mo.

AFAIK Mass charges 6.25% on the monthly (there can be an annual excise tax from the municipality but I believe thatā€™s charged separately and directly to the resident/lessee).

And DMV fees are relatively cheap. I looked over my friendā€™s email correspondence re his purchase and it was ~$185

I just donā€™t see how they are going to honor that ad. After adding back CCR, grad, and the upper end of the regional lease cash being posted on Edmunds, the discount prior to incentives just seems too high for a Toyota (20+ percent)

Thereā€™s probably a bunch of dealer cash, possibly on a stairstep incentive program. Bottom line- Corolla for $115/mo + tax with zero down = smoking good deal > take it.

That ad is more like fishing line with a dollar attached as bait.

Legally, they should be obligated to honor that deal. Cinnamngrl could look on their website and pick 2-3 Corolla SEs with MSRPs of $21,639 and be set with the expectation of coming up with $750 more than advertised. If they donā€™t honor it, the MA DMV (or whatever agency oversees automobile advertising) and Toyota should be interested in hearing about it.

Wow- looks the worst car dealership ever. Maybe it will be hard to get them to honor the deal. Look at the Yelp! reviews:

They emailed me several times yesterday, trying to get me down there again. I asked for an offer sheet to be scanned to me. They have credit application and Id from my first visit. He kept saying there is a limited amount.

Also, the way this is worded it seems that the College Grad Rebate only applied to financing the car, but what is the point of fighting with them. it wont get me the car. I have been talking to a broker. At this point I am ready to pay someone just so I donā€™t have to talk to another client care specialist.

That looks like a copy/paste from their ad. You should pick a car and have them email and actually deal sheet.

If you are in MA try a different family of dealers. IRA or even Quirk. Boch has issues in my book. my 2 cents.
