ack sent me a deal sheet
Did you pay in cash, ass or grass?
I don’t get annoyed if they try to haggle. You never know if you don’t try. On the other hand I make them aware of my price match policy and then they never ask for a discount from that point on.
I do if asked for, I really don’t care if another broker on here takes the deal.
A LH calc is fine too, as long as the math is accurate when I’m sitting in the FI office.
Calcs work against my buyers. Wish I could use them would be much easier for me but I have banks varying by region, discounts vary depending on my dealers mood too . One day it’s 5k off the next maybe 6k bc they want it gone. So messaging me for a quote is always best and more personal as well. I can recommend vehicles that might be a better deal at the time…
This is 100% the truth. You text me the numbers, the dealer calls and confirms, I sign the paperwork in the parking lot of the Norwalk DMV;). My ‘22 Sahara actually came out cheaper. I need to unload the ‘22 4xe because I’m getting close to my allotted miles (27,000+ in 15 months) so I can get another car through you.
I guess here is the best place to ask than any and many threads are older or before the supply chain inflation era… but how is the broker business today (yes… I know there is a dealer business thread)?
There used to be a some brokers here that are no longer active (either by banhammer or self-imposed) and then there are new ones.
Seems like if you have a good relationship with a few dealerships, it can be a good side (or main) hustle.
There is a similar discussion going on in the Meme Lounge but on top of broker fees from the buyer, is there some spiffs from the dealers too? And is there some type of licensing you have to have to be a broker or can you ACK it up and just ask for a referral fee?
And have there been a lot of dine and ditch customers who do the deal but don’t pay the broker fee (or backdoor it without the broker knowing)?
Personally, the broker model seems like one of the best ways to get a vehicle. But how is it for the broker today compared to the pre-Covid days that @Jrouleau426 reminisces about?
The broker business is great. Especially with some dealers still above msrp. Think about this, a customer contacts you about how they were hit at 2500 over msrp and are frustrated. You have a deal that you can get at -1000 below invoice. You tell the customer that you can get them invoice pricing, and have a broker fee of 500 lets say. The customer saves thousands, you make $1500. Repeat 10x a month.
In California you need a dealer license to be a broker
Dealers only pay brokers if they are licensed and a lot of dealers are not open to paying brokers at all no matter what the deal looks like.
Feel like this is the rosy version of how a brokering business would work. I obviously don’t know enough about the broker model but when something sounds too easy to do (like your post suggests), it probably isn’t.
You get those customers who want this that and expect it for free
Lol headache
Let’s not talk about the calculator boys….
There is ONE BIG struggle to the broker business, finding the customers
Outside of LH, there are plenty of people who look for a broker not bc of pricing but strictly for convenience. For example, there is a well known broker here on LI who has been in business for over 20 years - we’re talking before auto brokers were a thing, this guy was knee deep in it. His pricing sucks based on my experience. I’ve reached out to him and he was higher than Rallye MB was pre-negotiation. Yet they do a ton of business and it’s mainly off of referrals and repeat customers, all because it’s convenient.
Is it official auto group??
They fleece their customers
The first time I leased back in the 90s I used a broker. He probably fleeced me but it was a good experience because he did everything… added rims/tires, removed trim from the exterior and delivered it to my office.
I didn’t want to haggle with a dealer (still don’t) and at the time was just happy that the monthly was lower than a purchase.
