TBH doesnt really pop off in the pictures…may be if seen in person!!!
I stopped in to the dealer to see the same Grand Wagoneer that @Bostoncarconcierge shared pictures of. It is a bit more impressive in person - it has a good real-world presence. A bit bigger than a Tahoe but not quite as big as a Suburban. The front end styling is a derivative, supersized version of the styling of the new Grand Cherokee L. Can be a bit slab-sided when looking at it from the side but the details are well executed.
The one in the picture is a Grand Wagoneer Series I with a sticker of $91k. While impressive in person, I’d still struggle to justify the cost, and I’d be more inclined to go up the scale to s Series II or III.
Here’s a view of the same vehicle in different evening lighting.
I would have thought so if only due to the size itself.
I just feel that in a bid to keep it a “Jeep” is there enough presence in the car to make it look like a 90-100k vehicles like the others do?
But i want to see one one the road as well just to see.
wheels look comically small
I’d have a hard time justifying it.
We bought a fully loaded Grand Cherokee L Summit Reserve earlier this year and seriously considered holding off for the Grand Wagoneers to hit the lots (recognizing we were considering going up size class from the GC L and our former full size LR Discovery to full size SUVs). Also considered the top end of the Tahoe range - a High Country with a sticker in the mid-80s.
Not sure we could see going even higher in price for Grand Wagoneer. Going up to the Series II or III means pushing 100k or over, and at those numbers, we would have had to strongly consider alternatives. In person, it didn’t seem that this vehicle had the presence of the new Escalade, nor the over the top 50-ish inch wide OLED screen that comes in it.
And the Grand Wagoneer similarly doesn’t seem special enough to warrant spending 10+k more than a fully loaded, top of the range Tahoe or Suburban either. Depending on where pricing shakes out with discounts, a well equipped standard Wagoneer instead of the Grand Wagoneer might be the sweet spot.
That is my fear as well.
It will need that presence to go along with the price tag.
Saw one in person yesterday as well and not sure it was quite big enough or had enough presence to justify the $92k sticker. Yukon/Escalade looks better to me and not that the Jeep looks bad just not that level yet
Something about the proportions is off. Think the wheelbase is too short relative to the overhangs.
The Grand Wagoneer is going to end up being a big flop if you ask me.
Grand Wagoneer starting price = $87,845
Cadillac Escalade starting price = $76,195
The number of people willing to shell out close to $100k for a JGW is going to be fairly small.
Probably a better comparison to start with the wagoneer rather than the grand wagoneer, since they’re basically different trim groups of the same vehicle.
“The Grand Wagoneer is Jeep’s new flagship SUV. The standard Wagoneer will compete with vehicles like the Chevy Tahoe and the Ford Expedition, while the Grand Wagoneer is more closely aligned to vehicles like the Cadillac Escalade and the Lincoln Navigator.”
And the Denali trim of the gmc yukon will compete more with the Escalade while the non Denali will compete more with the Tahoe, but they’re still both yukons.
Starting price is an artificial metric.
What do they cost similarly equipped?
Since you don’t believe the entry level Escalade and the JGW are similarly equipped then why don’t you tell me the differences that justify the almost $12,000 price difference.
Jeep also released the Wagoneer for this entire argument. The Wagoneer will compete with the Tahoe/Yukon trims, while the GW is geared toward the Escalade trim.
Sure. Let’s go down the features list of what’s missing from the base escalade:
4 wheel drive
panoramic roof
air suspension
active damping
eLSD
20 way seats
massaging seats
ventilated seats
adaptive cruise control (isn’t even optionally available on the base escalade… wtf GM)
HUD
leather seats
auto parking
lane change alert
rear cross traffic alert
automatic emergency braking
I’m sure there’s probably more that I’m not seeing.
I think if we put price tags on all of these, you’d be well over 12k in options.
Possibly, but as far as a customer is concerned…who wants things you don’t care about? Isn’t it better to just have them as options? I’m in Florida…what do I need 4WD for? 20-way seats…12 is just fine you won’t notice a difference. And the list goes on…
Exactly. Then you’d just buy the significantly cheaper Jeep Wagoneer instead of overpaying for the Escalade for the same features.
Btw: Dealer already showing 6-7% off MSRP on their website:
