GM card closed for applications, being revamped in May

Hopefully that means the return of Top Up offers. The card has kind of sucked ever since Goldman Sachs took over.

I’m seeing a lot of perk cards getting closed. My 5% back Walmart card closed. I was making a killing buying gold at 5% off below spot and reselling it. I think I’m the main reason they closed it out :joy:

Wow, that’s interesting. I got my new Marcus GM Rewards card in February when I leased my XT6 It gave me $500 Rebate incentive towards the lease, another approx $500 in rewards points which covered my first lease payment due, and 9 months interest free on my balance which I charged at signing. If the card survives, I’m considering using it for expenses as it provides 4% points credit which I can directly apply to my lease payment. Definitely one of the most generous rewards card out there.

My father actually got a top up offer a couple months ago for $750 on anything and $2,750 on an EV. His is the original 5% version from 1993ish. Nothing on my newer card and this offer was specific about it being valid for cardholder only. Shattered my dreams as an authorized user added years ago just for these offers.

I was just asked by a socal Chevy dealer if I am willing to get a GM card to sweeten a deal.

We need a thread for this stuff too :joy:

It sounds like Barclays is taking over the business so I guess we’ll see what kind of offers they have for us.

New card is revamped and live:

Any idea if we can still get $500 incentive for opening the card with the delearship?

If there is any GM car worth flipping this can 3x your hack. Otherwise a pretty useless card.

It doesn’t appear to be an active GM incentive at the moment so I don’t think that’s going to be possible right now. My best guess is GM and Goldman Sachs were offering that promotion to pump up the amount of cardholders before the card was sold to Barclays.

Yea that makes sense. But strangely enough, I still see it listed on a few dealer websites and even mentioned at Auto Companion’s incentives:

I see it in RateFindr on the Blazer EV at least so maybe it is back?

I just got the GM Card letter in the mail with the updated program information starting in August. They used to give you a 5% credit reward for everything you charged. The new program only gives you 3% which isn’t nearly as good.

However there is no $500/year cap on rewards like before. The new program will let you get 3% unlimited depending on how much you charge.

The new program also gives additional rewards for GM car purchases, GM dealer maintenance, and accessories.

Now you know…

Does anyone know if we have to apply through the dealer to get the extra $500 credit card rebate? The dealer link I got for the Barclays card doesn’t include the 30k points, just the 0% apr offer

Has to be through a dealer link
Not sure about the 30k though

I don’t think there was ever a cap on rewards. At least not on the 4% card. I’ve earned about $8k worth in the past 9 months and have redeemed about $2k.

This is probably the biggest value, especially for people who use it for business charges. Conceivably, you could rack up enough points to lease cars for free.

Anyone had issues with dealer being able to redeem? Leased but wouldn’t work for some reason to apply the $500. Curious if it’s a bigger issue with the new bank servicing gm card.

I am supposed to sign on a Silverado ev using this rebate next week so hopefully it’s not a system wide problem.
