German car weak AC system in general

The AC system in my 2018 E300 seems to not blow icy cold air compare to my mom’s Lexus RX350 or even my old 2014 Accord. I took it to the dealership and they found no faults with it. Maybe the German do not equip their vehicles with powerful AC system?

Quite common in German cars.
It’s their “sickness” - what my German friend refers to it

My 3 series is cold, especially when you use the max ac button

I should hope so! But by then it becomes so loud that it’s quite distracting. You have to crank up the fan speed quite high in order to feel anything in my Mercedes. Not the case with American or Japanese cars I drove. Even on lower speed setting you actually feel cool, and on max setting the car literally become a freezer.

I just hit max ac then turn the fan down. But nothing tops my 2003 Silverado’s AC, that thing will freeze you out, almost no reason to ever run that at max.

Americans: we have an AC, how do we build a car around it?

Germans: car is done, now let’s talk about where to squeeze in the AC unit.

I’ve had GMs that the air sucked, and GMs that it will freeze your ass off. My Bimmer will freeze your ass off too if you can overcome the heat coming off the jet black leather, which acts as a heat sponge. Once you conquer that, it works fine. I find turning the fan on 10 mins before departure via the app (or scheduled in iDrive) makes a world of difference in how quickly it gets cold when you do turn the air on.

This coming from a guy that likes it pretty cold, keeping the AC at 68 in the summer at home.

I’ve had a 2007 328i, 2011 335i, and a 2016 CLA45 AMG. All of them have had excellent air conditioning. The CLA gets so cold I can’t stand it even on blisteringly hot days. I think the dealership is just lazy, and doesn’t want to put in the actual work to fix the problem.

My wife has a 2017 Nissan Murano that has a problem with the front collision sensor that will randomly stop working. She’s taken it in three times, and they won’t fix it unless it is happening that instant. That’s impossible, as they’d actually have to keep the car for a day and drive it for a while. They won’t do that. No wonder Nissan is losing a massive number of customers and money.

Maybe check in a Mercedes forum. Did the dealer tell you what temp the air was coming out at? You can measure it with a thermometer. I’m sure on the MB forum there will be someone with the temperature number to compare. If you don’t measure it, you’re just guessing.

Our E300 had to have its fan blower motor replaced under warranty. A/C was working, but it vibrates the entire cabin at max fan speed.

I remember when a Toyota Starlet had better ac than a S/class Mercedes. Granted it had much lower cubic volume to cool down.

I have to keep my ac at max on my 2018 Tiguan, and my kids still complain about how hot it is in the car. My wife’s MDX stays cool and you can barely hear the air from the vent.

Mine work fine in AZ. Infrared rejecting tint helps a lot.

How much did you pay?

Did crystaline on one of my GT’s was $599. New GT came with tint and i tinted the 2 pane glass roof for $200. Did my 530i for $399

The AC in my 750i is awful.

Max AC is mandatory on hot days, but the noise it makes is excruciating.

It doesn’t help that the ventilated seats are completely worthless.

Other than this and the absurdly cheap materials on the dash and center console, I love the car.

Wait, the LED lighting on the dash and door panels is really hokey.

Our RX and NX have much cooler AC than the M3CS and old 330e… For some reason its been this way… we used to have an old 325 and the AC always weaker than the 2005 Lexus RX… Japanese > German in AC department…

750 has nappa leather wrapped dash and center console. What is better than that?

Max A/C isn’t the best setting, only works well when car has been running for a while. Manual mode on 60 degrees with fan on high is better. You can turn off the LED lighting too
Fyi

For what it’s worth my Audi Q5 has a much better A/C than my wife’s Lexus NX.

I don’t know if it is a German thing as much as a make/model thing. Our RX has great A/C but the NX we had previously had weak A/C. Mazda 3 has weaker heating/cooling compared to the ND Miata. I had no complaints in my 2013 428’s system.
