Funniest/most ridiculous dealer replies you've ever gotten

Paid broker fee after dealer said he couldn’t match.

Broker didn’t get played. He got the deal done despite the dealers BS.

What I meant to say is the dealer said the brokered deal wasn’t going to happen.

Back in 1999, I was shopping for my first new Car and only read about MRSP and Invoice from AutobyTel.
So I head to Puente Hills Mitsubishi since they were offering a $50 restaurant gift card for a Test drive of the Galant.
I liked the car, so I offered to meet them halfway of Invoice and MSRP. The sales manager counter with a number closer to MSRP.
I told him it was higher than what I’m looking for, and he just got up and ripped the paper in pieces and asked me to leave. I did not even get the gift card.

I made a stop by Cerritos the next day, and asked for $300 above Invoice, and they accepted right away. Most likely still overpaid LOL !

So you got a quote from a broker, then took that to the dealership to try and save the broker fee? lol

I mean is that crazy? I had no clue the car in question was the same.

Shopping posted broker deals are fine, but once you’re getting individual quotes by taking a broker’s time, trying to shop around the quote to dealers is unfair to that broker.

From what I understood He didn’t shop broker. Broker was engaged and paid after the dealership visit.
Just the car in question happened to be the exact car broker had listed a quote for on their list. The list doesn’t have vin or stock number so it could be any car.
Just by luck ended up being the same

You are naive :slightly_smiling_face:

Yeah… happens from time to time. But if he really did try to go around the broker, why would the broker still worked to deliver the car?

True for most cases. But this brokers website has the actual quote on his website so you just let him know when youre ready to pull the trigger.

Because the guy couldn’t get the same deal on his own and it is just business.

I absolutely had no idea it was the same car. How could I? The broker site has no identifying information on the car. The brokers price is clearly laid out on his website. Pulling the necessary information
From Edmunds and asking a dealer if they can Match the discount seems like a no brainer.

This is exactly what happened.

It is a no brainer to figure out the local dealer and the specific car, if you really want to. Not saying it’s what you did, just saying.

I see. We’ll it was my first time using a broker so I really didn’t think much of it. See your point tho.

I think it’s safe to assume that most browsers of leasehackr who have free time on their hands look at the lease spreadsheets of brokers and see what is possible, namely what kind of discount is achievable at buy rate. I’d wager to say that a lot of them use that as a starting point and try to do one better i.e. call the dealer ask to speak to the finance manager and say “another dealer is offering me this discount at buy-rate, you’re closer so I’d prefer to do business with you instead of them”. If I’m looking for something generic like a 330ix white on black with a premium package and HK in a large metro area there might be 10 vehicles that match that exact description. Generally larger dealerships tend to gravitate towards volume so those are good starting points which narrows the vehicles you’re looking at to 3~4. What are the chances a broker in the same metro area is advertising one of those vehicle? 25-33%.

About 20k below market. 2021 Wrangler 4XE Rubicon. Offers have been 56-58k
