Fisker orders, delivery etc

It’s not like Fisker manufacturers the parts, nor are the parts used exclusively by Fisker. It’s well known that Tesla uses the same steering racks as Land Rover, you can walk into a LR dealer and buy the part for half the price of Tesla. The problem is the software, but that really doesn’t break, it just won’t get better.

Yeah, there’s a Fisker-nut in San Francisco that continues to provide service on the Karma. He’s gone out of his way to source spare parts and is kind of the go-to for people who have issues with their almost-impossible-to-service Fiskers.

So someone who has plans on living near SF may actually be ok continuing to operate a massively-discounted Fisker Ocean (assuming Pat keeps doing his thing).

I think the other Fisker shop that could be a reasonable safety net is EVolution Autosports in Warminster, Pennsylvania. Edit, SOB z0lt3c snuck in his post while I tried to do a stealth edit. MF’er posts faster than an EV goes 0-60 (and loses 50 miles of range).

Always happy to plug my local Fisker shop. They worked on all my out of warranty Tesla. They are my secret weapon for EV service.

I would have bought a Karma from Joe, but didn’t find the seats comfortable.

Did they ever add in the memory-seats to the Fisker Ocean trims below Ultimate? They weren’t available 6 months ago, but not sure if they came in on an update.

Well, the seller has a reserve so who knows what the final bid would be.

I don’t own a Tesla so I was not aware of that.

:100:

In a bold move, they listed this one without a reserve…

I wonder what the Manheim auction reserves have been. Maybe $420.69?

The rear damage doesnt look that bad.

Where’s the guy that is trying to get out of his Fisker Ocean? 5mph golf cart bump to the rear = totalled. You could just walk up and do a front-kick to get out of a $60k loan. Banks (I mean Insurance Companies) hate this one trick!

“Electric-vehicle firm Fisker is recalling more than 12,000 Ocean vehicles to fix an issue where exterior door handles can stick and fail to open, the company said on Friday, marking its third recall this month.”

I’d risk $5K on one.

Realistic value right now is between $10k-$15k. Considering you are a broken keyfob away from a brick in your driveway. There are no parts right now, check Fisker owners reddit.

There are some very nice EVs now under $25k that qualify for $4k EV used credit. So Ocean would have to be well below $20k to be worth it.

Here you go.

So who is servicing and paying for these recalls?

Even software updates have a cost component.

Good question

Damn, $1.5k. I would certainly take it for $2-2.5k if it charges and drives, who cares about anything else.

The company is still liable under US law.

Since the manufacturer’s warranty is essentially baked into the price of the vehicle, I would imagine that there is some kind of insurance that would cover these types of things? It sounds like the US Government is treated as a creditor for these things and I’m fairly sure that they get first crack at any assets in order to cover stuff like this, if needed. It is certainly an interesting problem, especially when it comes to implementing fixes and getting those people paid.

Interesting thought exercise, I haven’t seen any analysis since the GFC

https://archive.nytimes.com/wheels.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/02/20/of-car-warranties-and-chapter-11/

What you shared is new law added/amended since 2011, and IANAL but seems to give the US the ability to prioritize warranty claims in bankruptcy. (Always good to refresh on what survivors like GM/Chrysler did vs those who passed-on like Isuzu and Saab).

I am not aware of any insurance like FDIC or PBGC that backstops private losses for warranty claims, don’t see anything in/following the statute you shared.

With Chevron deference decision today, I was initially worried that it might be vague enough for Fisker to challenge in bankruptcy court since it’s administrative enforcement under DOT, but this seems specific enough. Be curious to hear what the lurking lawyers think.

Interesting. I wonder if they plan to service them, or just Frankenstein them together as critical parts fail, or just auction off any that can’t be used. At $14,000 a car for 3300 cars it could be any of the above.

This article has more details. Fisker will not service the cars but will give American Lease all vehicle source code.
