Yeah I got a second email reminder. Most be going really slow as the option to upgrade has been available for a few weeks now (or longer)
$5k is a big commitment
There are still lots of details missing. If theyâd release details, or let journalists drive prototypes like vinfast did (and many companies do), I think theyâd sell out of the One edition much easier.
Just wait a bit for the ultra or sport. No big deal.
Maybe they shouldâve had 2,500 special editions instead of 5000.
Or made the deposit refundable or more like $1,000 non refundable
So what are the chances this is a good flip? Is the launch edition really not going to be worth at least 80-90k right after itâs delivered? The lower models arenât going to be available until 2024 and probably mid 2024 too.
I think the ocean one very well could be worth 80-90k. It all depends on the journalist reception. Itâs a gamble. Are you feeling lucky?
There is no way a Fisker will be worth up to $90k when the Rivian R1T MMR is supposedly $95k. Iâd say you will probably be lucky to flip the Ocean One at the price you paid for and get to claim the tax credit as profit.
Definitely more realistic. But if you see the video of the ipace mule with etelligentreach, I think the Ocean could really surprise with its performance. The ocean will have more power than the ipace mule.
No way im putting $5k down on a car ive never driven or even seen. I planned on one Ultra and one Sport. Hopefully they dont require another deposit on those.
Not everyone wants a rivian though and how long will that take to get after you order it? The rivians are going for well over $100k used right now. People arenât necessarily rational and some people really value having a unique car but arenât forward thinking enough to order one.
The biggest downside I see is that there are options at $40k. And who wants so pay $90k for a car people can get for less than half that. Just like no matter what you do to a civic or how well optioned it is you probably arenât getting $60k for it.
At $72k including destination charge, the Ocean One makes no sense to me. The Model Y runs circles around it in performance and you know what youâre getting and more importantly, that youâre actually getting a car. To come in at $72k is just not where the market is for this car. Iâm a buyer at the $50k model, not at $72k.
I also have very little confidence that in this economy, Fisker will produce even 5000 cars by EOY 2023. I think itâs going to be a race against diluting their stock fast enough to finance operations long enough to stay alive. For that reason, no they cannot have a $5,000 nonrefundable deposit from me.
Iâll listen to the earnings call august 3, will be a critical update.
40,000 cars in 2023 vs. 5,000 is a huge difference.
Based on their recent e-mails, they are saying that only if they produce all 5,000 Ocean One in 2023 will production of the Ultra start and it would be late in the year. 40,000 even in 2024 is a lofty goal based on 5,000 in 2023.
You read the emails wrong. The One is a special edition capped at 5000 units. They start right hand drive mid 2023, which is why some of the ocean one models will be delivered later in 2023. Fisker has been clear with a 40,000+ volume target for 2023.
Oh I see. So they are going to produce all the One and Extreme edition orders and then move on? I didnât see any mention of 40,000 units, was that in their shareholder meeting? I thought they were talking about the Ocean One going through late 2023 but now I see they said that will be Ocean Extreme through late 2023. But if they canât sell Ocean One at $72k, why would they be able to sell Ocean Extreme at the same price?
Tesla didnât produce 40,000 vehicles in a year until 2015. While the market can support 40,000 sales of a $40k EV, whether Fisker can ramp up to that level so quickly is my biggest skepticism. I mean I would love to buy one but a lot has to go right for it to happen so quickly.
The one is just the extreme with a specific color combo and a $5k deposit to get it first. Theyre the same vehicle otherwise.
Theyâre going to try to sell as many $69k one and extreme models as they can sell, but fill remaining capacity with ultras and sport models.
Yes this is from shareholder meetings and materials.
If people arenât biting at the ocean one, why would they bite at the extreme? Imo the ultra is the one that most will want.
Agree, the marketing to explain the value of the incremental $19k in price for the extreme over the ultra is not good.
Most people will get the ultra or sport, unless there are surprises that make the $19k suddenly make sense.
Fisker doesnât need to worry about ramping up. Theyâre using contract manufacturers, Magna-Steyr for the Ocean and Foxconn for the Pear. Magna already builds a similar vehicle in China, the Arcfox Alpha-S, so this shouldnât be rocket science for an experienced manufacturer.
Thereâs a lot that go wrong with the Pear simply because Foxconn purchased a factory in the US Northeast (Michigan or Ohio?) and is repurposing it.
Magna will build the Ocean at their factory in Austria. They already build for Jaguar, as well as MB, and the Zupra twins. If theyâve committed to the volume, then they should have capacity.
