Since the points can be redeemed for statement credits it can be used to pay down your lease balloon payment if you take out a GM card at the time of lease inception. So you get $500 dollars as a straight rebate for signing up for the card and and maybe an additional 200-250 dollars (depending on vehicle value) between the bonus points and the points for buying a new vehicle.
I received a mailer for the GM card that was offering the $500 discount at the time of a lease/purchase plus another 50k points (vs. the 20k or so you get if you just open a regular rewards account). If this stacks, that would be a very nice payday.
From what I understand, there isn’t anything you need to do to manually link it. When you go to lease a vehicle, your Costco certificate gets tied to the deal. Your GM rewards account is also tied to the same deal. I think the points should automatically populate in your GM rewards account later on - will find out if this is true for the car I just signed

I know a lot of people here have been doing one pays so this may not be applicable to them, however the way I’ve been using my points is just directly throwing them at monthly payments in the GM financial portal. Every time I get a boatload of points from a new car, I just throw the points towards the monthlies on my Silverado EV.
True, if you have a monthly payment you’ll get better value from the points. However, to earn a substantial amount, that would mean charging a down payment. That’s against cardinal rule #1 around here
Funny you mention that… the other day I was looking at my GM rewards account redemption history and the total was kind of insane. I mean I suppose it’s great for their customer retention though lol.
Just did a one pay on a Blazer EV yesterday and based on all the promos and whatever I should be getting around $750 in points…
Signing on a GM lease later today. I have Costco gold and want to capitalize on these extra points. I’ll be doing the GM signup and putting the one pay amount on the card. Am I reading correctly that I don’t need to take any action before signing? As long as I link the gm rewards with Costco after signing I will get the bonus points?
I was trying to get another optiq but they were all out of loaners. Tried going for a new one and got quoted $7k one pay but deal fell through partly because I couldn’t get the GM card. They tried to make it work but something about their portal for the $6500 closed at 8:55 PM and the deal didn’t go through.
I had a similar problem so the dealer just took an additional discount on the MSRP to get the deal over the line. I don’t know why they can authorize leases without issue but running a credit check for a GM card is like the Manhattan project.
For my Vistiq I signed up for the card at the dealership and put 1k down on the card then received an instant $500 additional (so effectively $1500 down). I then received a bunch of points which equated to $300 off my next payment. After using the card for two months I just received another bonus of 50,000 points which i again applied to my next lease payment. Don’t ask me how it all happened, I thought I was just getting the first $500 and $300. The 50k points was in addition to the 12k points I received from normal buying.
At the end they decided to eat the $500 but they didn’t make the deadline for rebate. Their fault for switching up the deal multiple times in the 2 hours we were there even after explaining to them that I don’t have the GM card.
