A good electrician can figure it out for you. If your car charges at 32 Amp you’ll probably want 50 Amp x 240V on that line.
As for the outlet you’ll probably want 14-50, and use the provided adapter or buy the adapter for it.
Guessing after those misadventures you will have to buy the charger and install it.
If there are no rebates from the manufacturer, fed/state/local gov, charger manufacturer or power company, between the electrician and the charger it could be +/- $5k or so from what I have seen for a decent, full power setup. All depends on the charger and cost of install (which can vary wildly based upon where your panel is, size of panel, the length of run, labor, etc.)
Provided you have the right service and space on your electrical panel, pretty much this easy. If you live in an old house with a full panel and/or ancient service, it gets more complicated and expensive (you’ll need upgrades before you can install, which can get you into the 10k range, worst case scenario).
Because this is LHer, I would check your power company utility website to see if they offer any rebates, and any conditions attached.
Then I’d get a quote from treehouse.pro. I have no affiliation, just an impressed future customer – all the front line folks I’ve interacted with were sharp and professional and the price was competitive with other installers.
For most people with modern or even semi modern electricals, it’s just the length that’s the main variable. $500-1,500 is probably the median range.
We paid ~800 for HPWC hardwired (up to 80A) on a 100A breaker and a 14-50 (up to 40A) on a 50A breaker.
Install was 2-3 meters away from the main panel.
For the charger and install? Unlikely of course.
Assuming you mean the install, $500 would barely get you an electrician in the door in 4 weeks for an hour on almost any job. That also assumes your panel is already decent sized and the run is not that long, no fire rated walls, no concrete, etc.
Add a great charger in and $5k-ish is not at all out of the ordinary in CA.

Yes. The only reason I had EV in the building was a free Level 2 Public charger 10 min walking from home where I would leave it overnight. Sometimes next to Tesla 3 or Jeep 4xe😂
When we moved to a house we installed charger almost right away and it’s a game changer. I have rarely go now to superchargers and it’s soooooo convenient to get home plug it in and have fully charged next morning.
Cost about $500 for the charger and another $600 for labor to install it. All covered by CT rebate but have to get a specific model since only 2 companies were approved in CT list.
Got this at Costco. It was about $50 cheaper on sale at the time.
That’s a pretty reasonable cost for that setup.
I am currently parking my EV on the street and charging at EA chargers whenever it gets down to 10-20%. 300mi+ range and 18 minute 80% charging makes it work (I use the whole 30 minutes to get it to 90ish%).
Sometimes there is a wait but experience has been good.

You will be ok with a long range EV and no regular long-ish trips. A friend with a Tesla Y is charging full once a week and he has 20 miles round trip commute. He is doing fine. On the flip side, wife needs to go to her office 50 miles away and she cannot do it two days in a row in her BMW i3 (150 miles range). We only have level 1 at home. Also, range anxiety will always occupy your mind even if you wont actually need to charge most of the time. But your brain will be on "what if " mode.

Yikes. As mentioned in the EV charger thread, it seems like a lot of them are padding when they hear “EV charger”. If you want to get a few quotes, take a photo of your panel and you can message a few top rated electricians near you on Yelp and see what they would charge. Make sure to let them know roughly how far from the panel the install will be.
I’m out of town until Friday and was hoping to get something going ahead of time.
But that’s probably a wiser idea.
I still have my workaround of the 120V outlet in my entryway, and if I need a fast charger in the interim, I know a good IHOP that has one nearby.
The lemon ricotta blueberry crepes weren’t terrible.
If the EVSE you have can support Level 2 charging with a NEMA 14-50 outlet, I’d go that route. That way all your electrician will need to do is to run the wiring from your panel to the new outlet. Assuming your panel can take a 40-50 amp breaker…
The big thing with a 14-50 for EV’s is the wiring costs (copper is $$$) and high quality outlet (~$80+) able to sustain the continuous load. Good luck!!

Not my photo below, but the car came with something like this (which I’m currently running into between the car and a 120V outlet in the entryway that’s adjacent to the garage when I need to charge.)
The Audi EVSEs come with a swappable plug side to go between 5-15 and 14-50
