Etron GT /Taycan ownership questions, anyone experience driveline failure or any other problems?

So has anyone leasing the Etron Gt had any issues with driveline failures in the E tron GT or being left stranded electrical issues problems?

Back story, I bought a 22 Taycan 4s new and it had multiple failures left me stranded and bricked also would not charge. Dealer ended up buying it back… I loved the way the car drove when running it was amazing.

The bad was software updates sucked and it spent days uploading software at dealer. Dealer had no idea how to fix problems and neither did Porsche at the time. The Taycan forums were loaded with electrical failures and driveline issues. I was told by salesperson they were getting a lot of issues with Taycan. Shortly after there was a huge recall and NHTSA investigation.

I remember seeing Etron Gt failures as well but there were less of them on the road at the time.

The reason I bring this up is the leases are attractive right now on the Etron GT. Leasing one is better than being out $150k if there are issues as the GT and Taycan are similar. So are the kinks worked out with the Etron GT? has anyone had any problems ???

I’ve only spent 1 month / 800 miles with my ET ron GT.

So far, one issue with the trunk intermittently not opening/closing properly.

So I spend a large percentage of my driving time with the “trunk open” error staring me in the face (there is no physical workaround).

And when I lock the car when it’s in this state, the app shows a warning indicating that the car isn’t safely parked despite being locked.

Also, just as an observation, the standard sound system sounds pretty good, but if you like loud music and want to turn it up to “10,” you’ll find that it tops out around 5.5, just shy of the performance you’d expect from an alarm clock radio at a Hampton Inn.

My other issue was the instrument cluster speedo would black out and not come back and the car would run climate controls when car was in garage for no reason. It also loved to lose all settings and revert to all german language.

Loved the way it drove when it worked and it was better than Tesla in that regard but no reliability at all. I was hoping they improved on this and now was the time to lease one again.

I can’t stop looking at listings for these and need to keep talking myself out it, haha! Couple questions if anyone doesn’t mind sharing… how much attention does it attract when you take it out? And how’s the clearance - how big an issue is scraping on driveways and ramps?

Quite a bit. I hadn’t anticipated this at all.

People at charging stations have lots of questions.

I get a lot of thumbs up from pedestrians and people who stop next to me at lights.

Roughly half of the Teslas assume that my first priority is racing them (my mom’s driven the car a couple of times, and it happens when she’s driving too.).

Clearance in the front is pretty low.

I’m not used to the car yet, so I have some anxiety in parking spaces that have those concrete parking stops, or when I have to diagonally park at a curb.

Really small dips at low speeds set off the sensor alarms.

It’s not super low like an exotic, though… I traded out of a 5 Series, so that’s my frame of reference. I don’t think this’ll be an issue once I get more acclimated.

I found the clearance on the Taycan to be fine for normal driving certainly better then the 2nd gen NSX I had before it.

If you have the air suspension you can raise it up higher at least on the taycan. It did not draw attention like an NSX but more so than a Tesla.

Any more owners have any feedback on the reliability on these? i still see a decent amount of driveline failures on some of the Audi forums?

Have they fixed the serious issues? I too am tempted to try again with an E tron GT but would like to hear more from owners.

If you can score a decent deal you should go for it.

About 3k miles so far no issues. Love the car. EA charging infrastructure has been the biggest disappointment so far. Then again if we can afford 100k cars we probably don’t need to be wasting our time trying to save 10 bucks on electricity!!

I could never get EA to work always charged at home. Ea mad me real nervous for road trips as seemed like chargers were always broken.

Will offer a bit of feedback based on my experiences. I had a 2021 GT PP, which was totaled by a red light runner only a few months after I got it, and I just recently got a 2023 GT PP.

I loved both cars. They are flawed in some ways that bother me greatly, and my eventual plan is to get the Cayman EV, but the lease deals right now are so good I felt I had to get the GT again for now after having lost the 2021. For reference, my other car is a 2023 Bolt EV 2LT and I had a 2019 Bolt EV.

Also for reference, my coworker has a Taycan 4S Cross Turismo with basically every option you’d want.

In my 2021 model the Audi app just wouldn’t work. Some sort of account issue, I never had time to try to get Audi to fix it (dealership was useless) before it was destroyed. I purposely deleted my Audi account before I got the 2023 to avoid similar issues, and the app works for me pretty reliably actually. I also haven’t had issues using the EA stations from the app…when the station itself isn’t busted. Driving the car from LA to San Jose was nerve-racking due to poor EA reliability.

My 2021 started developing rattle in the front passenger door about a month after I got it, but I never got a chance to have it looked at. This 2023 one had rattle and speaker buzz in both front doors from the moment I got it. Couldn’t have it looked at then since I needed to drive the car back home. I had it serviced last week, they said it’s a known issue, and now passenger door seems to be fixed but there’s still rattle in the driver side door so it’s going back yet again this week, very troublesome.

No rattle in my 30k Chevy Bolt, just saying. Also, technicians damaged the door trim while removing it to add felt tape under the speaker grille so it’s going to have to go back for service yet again in two months when the parts show up. Very troublesome x 2. I’m sure eventually this will all be sorted, but Audi really needs to redesign the interior door. Coworker with Taycan has had zero issues with car build, it’s a masterpiece.

My 2021 had the stock audio which back then was real bad, worse than 2019 Bolt. 2023 has the B&O audio standard. It’s OK. Main flaw is that it’s impossible to get the frequency response near the harman curve because there’s no independent adjustment of mids. It’s clear from listening that the actual hardware is good but the software implementation is lacking. Not a fair comparison but coworker’s Taycan with the Burmester system sounds a lot better.

The MMI hardware and software implementation is bad. The wireless CarPlay implementation is extremely susceptible to interference and the link degrades and disconnects consistently in regions where there is interference or frequency jamming. You cannot drive these cars near SFO or SJC without interruptions to wireless CarPlay. There’s also specific areas I’ve found, like a certain spot in a parking garage, and a certain drive-thru, where it will drop out consistently in that area. I talked with my coworker who has an RS6 Avant and they confirmed they have these same issues. Either the head unit or Audi’s standard impl of the unit is just garbage. Coworker with the Taycan has not experienced this.

No such issues in the Bolt in all the places where the Audi has issues. Me and my coworker just use wired CarPlay to mitigate but it’s kind of lame to have to resort to this. YMMV based on the environment you live and drive in. Audi is not the only company to have problems in its wireless CarPlay impl but it’s not very befitting of a $100k+ car.

Other issue, which is very minor but I work in audio playback engineering so it’s very noticeable to me, is that even with wired audio or native playback there can be audio blips once in a while. I would put the frequency at less than one glitch per day but it’s frustrating as I’ve had 0 audio glitches over 4 years of Bolt driving. From what I’ve heard the Bolt runs QNX even for the head unit software so I’m not surprised that it isn’t susceptible to audio overloads, that’s why the iPod ran a real-time operating system too. I’m sure Audi is not the only maker whose implementation has this issue but it makes me sad.

This may all sound very negative but I’m specifically outlining the negatives for you.

The actual driving experience is just fantastic, the car looks great without looking exotic or overstated. I was miserable during my daily commute on Bay Area roads having lost the air suspension. It makes such a difference to comfort. If Porsche doesn’t add it on the Cayman when it goes EV it might be a dealbreaker for me.

The lease deals are a steal IMO. I recommend.

I want some madman in GM to read this comparison between a Bolt and Taycan and make the last 200 Bolts an insane decked out hot hatch version.

GM unkilled the Bolt

this makes me happy

:point_up_2: :point_up_2:

That coworker’s Taycan CT is mamba green.

With respect to resurrected Bolt, given that it’s going to run Android automotive and not have CarPlay, nothing positive I said here will apply to it. Nothing running that kernel will handle audio properly. Very sad.

I love the Bolt though. It’s my “Lets go get Baja Blast from the 24hr Taco Bell in the sketchy area at 2AM” car. No gas or maintenance, cheap. Just gonna drive it until it falls apart. Audi is my “Lets drive to/from this place that has a really safe parking area” car

interesting. Volvo (finally) has that combo working well

They unkilled it in theory. They’re still stopping production this year and there’s no indication any 2024s will be built.

CT Wagons ARE great! And so is the RS ET GT….

The RS ET GT has had zero issues since delivery in March. The Taycan 4 CT has only yesterday flashed a ‘right side charger port’ flaw. Charger door stays in lock position…so no DC fast charging until it gets resolved at the dealer.

MMI in the RS blows away stability wise the MMI in our e-tron Prestige SUV, which I would give a a D- to.

The BEVs were acquired to get carbon credits to offset the diesel fumes that spew from the D110 TDi…kidding of course :upside_down_face:

I’ve had two taycans over the last year and have had no issues.

Both wagons of course.

Amazing cars.

Why have you had two taycans this year? No issues with the electronics, charging, etc?
