At 5-6 a.m. I encounter an outsized number of morbidly obese 20-something she-beasts in Hyundai Ioniqs, sound asleep in the driver’s seat with the windows all fogged up.
Like they’re squeezing in an errand and a nap between an after party and the morning shift at the Lucky Tramp Motel three exits south of the airport.
But I just saw the closest EV Charging station to my house. The good news is that it’s close to Chase bank. The bad news is that it’s out of the way about .25 miles away.
Is that would be the case by EA supercharger in my town I would give 0 value to free charging. Hate lines and I would just leave immediately.
Luckily today at same charger station waited 2 min for a stall to be free. Spend 29 min charging and left.
Only issue charging speed of 69kwh vs max allowed 150🥺
Can you buy an adapter from Tesla to your Audi and use Tesla SC? Or am I thinking too far ahead? I do see Tesla chargers more empty vs for other brands. Makes me wonder
There is something called the Tesla CCS Chargers but they are few and far between. Download the Tesla app and it has a feature called ‘Charge your Non Tesla’
Getting off the EA topic here, but you can do a custom search on PlugShare (https://www.plugshare.com/map/tesla-ccs-locations); as mentioned there are very few, but depending on where you’re coming from to NJ there’s one in Pittsburgh and another in Easton, MD. Can do the majority of your charging at one of these and then top off at a closer EA as needed?
I just take 95 straight up from NC to Northern NJ. I think if I charge up in VA, I should be fine but I need to see which EA stations actually available. I read reviews on few stations saying its available but they are taken or not working.
You tried ABRP (A Better Route Planner) to plan your trip? I’ve been checking it out, it’s a shame to see the reviews and check-ins - there’s a seemingly great option at the EA at Walmart in Abingdon, MD, with 8 350kW stations. Looks like only 3 or perhaps 4 have been available the last week, with comments about pulling 80kW - ugh!
You make the best of plans, ABRP says you need about 20 minutes here to go from 20-80% and be on your way, then you see comments about people waiting an hour for one of those few working spots at subpar charging levels
I did ~830 miles on Black Friday with a ‘23 Ionic 5 AWD that I bought for my wife. Used EA for the entire route from NY to WI and everything worked great.
Only my first charge in NY Victor required a small queue time with a Rivan and yes that’s an Amazon truck using the only 350kW charger. Most stops I was able to pull my max charge rate of 230kW.
