And then that’s exactly what you did.
Don’t be an ass…there seems to be a pattern with you and smart ass replies including other threads lately …
@ElectricEliminator is a good guy that contributes here and is a fellow NJ’ian. He has my respect. He got an insane deal but when any type of Gov agency is involved it makes me skeptical so I wanted to shed light on this.
My point is that he’s waiting on a promise from the state where the legal language isn’t even clear.
Go crap on some other thread now…
“ My point is that he’s waiting on a promise from the state where the legal language isn’t even clear.”
What’s not clear about it?
First, it’s not a promise, it’s a law signed by the governor.
Second, you’re well within your right to dispute or disagree with the new law, but please do so based on fact, not on unfounded opinions.
“ So come this summer, when you’re due this check, will you be calling Trenton to see where the check is? ”
That would be the NJ BPU - the NJ Board of Public Utilities, they have a legal obligation to create the rebate framework. NJ is setting aside $300,000,000 over the next 10 years to support this law.
There are only 2 aspects of the law that are unclear, a) how many cars are eligible per purchaser and b) what the future rebate totals will look like starting next year.
please take the time to familiarize yourself with the new law, there are plenty of people that are on the edge when it comes to electric cars and this incentive will open the door to lots of them.
During my due diligence over the past couple of weeks I actually had the pleasure of getting the contact information and speaking with a very nice woman in Trenton at the BPU who was very helpful, aside from being able to definitively tell me whether an out of state purchase or lease would be honored. The Governor’s office and the related agencies have actually been quite responsive, if not 100% certain about some of the details involved.
Lol…there is always that anti government guy that doesn’t wanna take his money back…it’s fine, dude…just step aside, others will take the offer. And you are not shedding any light on this at all…just FUD.
Blockquote
Fair… I get it, you love and trust your politicians…the state has an EV rebate program going on…
BUT, nowhere does it says it pertains specifically to and including “LEASED” vehicles. Could be that they do it, or it could pertain to purchases only. I.e, if you BUY the car.
We’ll see when/if the rebate comes back. Electric said he’ll report back
That’s the most honest self-assessment of someone’s offspring I’ve seen in a very long time. ![]()
i can say that about mine as well, except he’s not safe either.
You’re the only one crapping on this thread.
“I don’t want to rain on your parade but let me write 500 words doing exactly that.”
You’ve not “shed light” at all, just assumed he won’t get the state rebate.
Great deal @ElectricEliminator
I have been trying to get on an EV deal since the rebate passed but been hesitant due to not knowing how the rebate will work on a lease and if leasing company can claim it as the initial purchaser (similar to the Federal Rebate & NY State rebate).
I have even read the bill it self and this is what it says
“5. (New section) a. The seller or lessor of an eligible vehicle shall offer the light duty plug-in electric vehicle incentive established pursuant to section 4 of P.L. , c. (C.)(pending before the Legislature as this bill) in conjunction with, and in addition to, any other incentive offered by the seller or lessor of an eligible vehicle.
b. A seller or lessor of an eligible vehicle shall provide a purchaser or lessee the option to have the amount of the light duty plug-in electric vehicle incentive deducted from the final negotiated and agreed upon sale or lease price of the eligible vehicle, in which case the full amount of the incentive shall be passed through to the purchaser or lessee in full and payment thereof shall be effective immediately at the time of the final sale or lease and transfer of the eligible vehicle to the purchaser or lessee. The board shall establish a process for reimbursing a seller or lessor of an eligible vehicle the cost of an incentive provided by the seller or lessor pursuant to this subsection.”
The last part of the language is what worries me, The board shall establish a process for reimbursing a seller or lessor of an eligible vehicle the cost of an incentive provided by the seller or lessor pursuant to this subsection
That the rebate will only be paid to the seller or the lessor not lessee. The only option the lessee has it to get it credited towards the purchase price. The screenshot of the FAQ you’ve posted only talks about the purchase transaction.
I hope you get the rebate, I am just worried about if as a lessee the rebate won’t be paid to you per the language of the bill and like Federal and other state rebates.

I understand where you are coming from, but the immediate effect of the law has necessitated the direct to consumer stuff until they get the dealer end worked out. All the subsequent materials affirming the immediate effectiveness of the program have clearly stated that the consumer will be able to claim this rebate until the dealer system is set up to allow point of sale application. Furthermore the law and all related materials have clearly said “purchase or lease” almost everywhere, with the only criteria being NJ resident, less than 55k msrp, registered in NJ and $25.00 for every mile of range, up to $5000 total. It’s really as clear as it can be at the moment.
Great, I hadn’t come across anything stating that so wasn’t too sure

But you can’t take the second section of part B independently from the first section. It clearly states, before the seller or lessor gets the rebate, that they discount it from the price for the buyer/lessee. So they can’t just take it, they have to pass it along.
Who do you trust more. The govt that hasn’t yet enacted a regulation but a nice employee told you it’s gonna be ok or the carfax is missing but the salesman tells you it’s clean and those scratches will buff right out.
Let’s hope it’s a $624 lease. A $5624 lease is not bad either.
!remind me 5 months
I think that’s important to remember as well, this was effectively a 156/mo sign and drive even without the rebate, which wouldn’t be quite as big of a deal, that’s still pretty good IMO, especially without the extra $2,500 or so from last month.
Amazing deal indeed. Wonder what’s next for GM in terms of EVs?
Well they have the Hummer coming, but that appears to be more of a Halo product. Allegedly there’s a CUV/Crossover version of the Bolt in the pipeline somewhere. I’d really like to see the Voltec drivetrain return in some capacity. I think it could be especially useful if repurposed for a light duty truck, SUV or mid sized crossover. The flexibility to do short trips with something like that while still having the ability to long haul with the help of gas would be something really cool to see, although I doubt it will happen because they would be seen as hedging their bets on electrification.
Bingo! This is exactly why all this rebate talk is ridiculous.
Will you survive if you don’t get it? I’m worried for you…
This is going to be state specific. I can go to the DMV right now and get a vanity plate with no issue. Do not need POA. That said, I am listed as the owner on my owner/registration card and the captive does not show.
In fact, captive doesn’t even know what my plate number is. It’s never been listed on any contract, outside of the temporary pink slip, nor have they ever asked me.
