It’s been a long time since I’ve leased and I could use some reassurance. Location is Maryland. 2026 Hyundai Kona SEL Sport AWD. Appreciate any feedback
VA taxes are 4.15%? 1799 looks off…my bad, you said Maryland.
Yeah, Maryland. I also checked all of the itemized fees (tire tax, title fee, etc) and they seem to be accurate.
Looks like you showed up a local store with the price quote I gave you last night and said “a broker in nj gave me this number, I want you to match it”. It looks like this because the due at signing above is dollar for dollar what I quoted you.
cc @brokers
I cant find any Konas in the signed section to compare with…looks like 11.8 dealer discount….is it 75% residual or 76%?
Then forget about leasing. MD has the highest tax on leases in the nation afaik

Hey, you’re absolutely right, that’s what I did. If that’s poor form, I sincerely apologize. I’ve read on other forums that it’s a totally acceptable to get a quote from a broker and ask a dealer to match it. Had I known it was a crappy move, I wouldn’t have posted where I knew you’d see it. I’ve been trying to negotiate for weeks with dealers and getting the run around from everyone with inflated quotes and, frankly, really rude and condescending communication. After talking to you last night, I thought I would try one more in the area to save myself a trip to NJ, except this time I posed as a man. Color me surprised when all of a sudden, a salesman was willing to meet me where I wanted to be. So, again, I apologize if I committed a leashackr sin, definitely was not my intention, and I appreciate all of the info you provided.
36 month term looks like better deal
no, you’re right. we love doing work and then having people take that work and do what you did. we exist solely for people to get quotes from us and then ask dealers to match it, since it’s totally acceptable. in fact, that is what allows us to put food on the table and provide for our families.
part of what you missed on “other forums”, however, is that in addition to a price, good brokers provide a hassle-free buying experience that eliminates surprises, etc. Have a feeling you’re about to go through some of that in the box at that local hyundai store.
Unfortunately — we don’t charge a retainer or an up front fee for quotes so when quoting people I realize I am at risk of someone taking my deals in and getting them matched or close enough to not pay a fee.
I don’t sell the lowest payment - I sell convenience, skipping the finance office, and a solid solid deal with the best service.
They can get close to the payment or get a comparable deal, but they’ll never emulate the ease of going through a broker & unfortunately this forum has become driven on “the lowest effective payment” and forgets the convenience of going through us. Service doesn’t matter anymore here.
Ditto, me too.
I hope you’re wrong, though I know there will be some confusion when I show up and they discover I’m a woman. If they give me the run around, I will walk out, and come crying back to you with egg on my face, and you can absolutely say “I told you so”
I truly appreciate your input.
Or you could just pay the man instead of using his work product as leverage when you admitted that others were wasting your time and coming back with horrible quotes.
Who do you want to reward with your business?
The person who gave you a great deal off the bat with no funny business
or
Someone who you had to trick into believing you’re another gender and had to provide another quote as a leverage just to get them to (possibly) not play games?
Which process do you think will play out better?
Well say, that’s why i learn that just focus on client’s thats in your area
And i used to just give out instantly, now we probably wont do so until we can learn a little bit from the client.
At the end of day, its the whole package experience that we try to cater
Unfortunately, a lot of people don’t think this way
Kind of different to shop something around vs literally presenting the exact same deal, dollar for dollar, to what someone quoted you and asking someone to match or beat it. I also completely understand payment shopping, and there are lots of people who want to grind to the last dollar. Those people also don’t necessarily value the convenience and ease of transaction that a good broker offers. Many of them wind up getting burned.
I enjoy the “hunt” which is why I haven’t used a broker yet but its good to know there are different views among brokers regarding etiquette.
Problem is now the broker service is viewed as a way to know what a good deal is and use that as the framework of emailing 500 dealers to get close or match or beat. My pricing is very strong, but I pair that with white glove service.
Seems like the more and more I do business here, all that matters is every penny - not the up front best quote, transparency on every deal, and the best service.
I’m comfortable enough to turn away the person who needs the pit bottom deal and will probably bomb a survey for something silly.
