CVRP California Clean Vehicle Rebate Question

Hello, I purchased a Lexus RZ450E in August and have already submitted an application for the rebate; the rebate has not been approved yet but according to the email, the funds are reserved for me pending approval. If I decide to upgrade to an RZ450E with a higher trim model(Luxury model), does anybody know if I can transfer the current application to the new vehicle? I don’t want to submit a brand new rebate because funds are close to being exhausted and there’s no guarantee that the new vehicle will get the rebate. I emailed CVRP with this question but received a general response that was not helpful. Thank you

No it’s tied to the vin
You would have to start a new app

There’s no way to simply update the application?

You also need to keep the vehicle for 30 months. They supposedly clawback money if you sell before based on registration records.

Whether they actually do is another thing

I didn’t receive the rebate for the first vehicle yet. It’s still processing. I only got the first vehicle 2 months ago. My question is can I update the application to the new VIN and receive the rebate for the new vehicle instead of the initial one?

The answer is no, the funds were allocated for your older car, and if you refuse the funds, they will not ‘transfer them’ to the newer car. And there is no funds for your newer car.

Oh I see. It might be wiser to wait until I receive the rebate and then change cars. Thanks for the replies

This also sounds like a good way to light money on fire. Are you expecting to return your current car and just be able to upgrade to the next trim level for whatever the msrp difference is?

Also, still no. You could get a second cvrp rebate, but youd have to hold onto 2 cars

I’m only losing 2k to upgrade so not too bad

How? You’ll pay sales tax twice at ~$6k/car

And a new set of tags :sob:

How much is Lexus’ destination fee?

Also no way the depreciation on 2 months is just $2k

You don’t pay full sales tax on a lease. Tax is based on monthly payments. The dealer that’s buying it out is a reseller and so I won’t have to worry about tax when I sell to him

You put purchase in your first post

Sorry my mistake. I just did a lease buyout and currently holding the lessor title. Apparently I need to go to DMV to register the vehicle and pay the tax but the dealer buying it from me said he’ll take over and I can disregard the tax

Only if you go thru with this in 10 days and only in CA.

I received the title about 10 days ago.

About or exactly? The transfer should take place within 10 days of the title being issued and the dealer purchasing it. (Someone else can correct me here )

I understand that. It specifically states 10 days from when the post office delivers the title. However, there is no tracking for the delivery. How would they know when the title was delivered?
