Cheapest Lease for Student

Trying to help my sister-in-law out with finding a lease. She is a student, but good credit. She has a shitty Ford Focus that a dealer is probably going to offer her 2k for. She doesn’t need a big vehicle - compact is fine, hatchback or small SUV/CUV all fine. What’s the best lease (and by best I mean cheapest) right now?

does an EV work? for NJ best would be an Ariya, about $250/m nicely equipped. Just get some home charging installed so don’t have to hassle with EA.

any gas lease would easily be $100/m extra if not more.

Check out CARE by Volvo in an EV … they bundle the lease and insurance into the monthly… and it seems their insurance rates are way better than if a young driver forged on their own to get insurance.

@thevolvoguy can get you more details.

Full EV might be tricky, hybrid would definitely work though.

S60 PHEV Recharge it is.

To begin with, does she have a job or income outside of being a student that will allow her to qualify for a lease?

Yes, she has income.

Dodge Hornet R/T might have some great lease deals.

What have you found by clicking on Marketplace for your state?

Hybrids are more expensive FYI.

If she can afford between $350-400 there are quite a few cars.

Under 350 is the Ariya and Vinfast and both are EVs.

If she can’t then a nice 10k used will do.

Yeah, it’s more of a logistical thing - she lives in my house, where there is no dedicated charger (nor would she have regular access due to how the parking is set up).

Probably more like 275-350, which I would think narrows it down quite a bit. I am poking around the marketplace now.

With zero down…that’s going to be tough.

Yeah, then wait for the surprise when they go to get an insurance quote on a new car being driven by a student.

Does she go to campus a couple of times a week for school? Maybe she can charge there?

She has a vehicle to turn in but again it’s probably not getting more than 2k

I should mention, she is almost 30. She’s had insurance of her own for a decade with clean driving record. Student probably painted the wrong picture.

can get a 4xe wrangler with jeep loyalty for about 350/m

Why not get a used camry?
