Car Shipping Companies

Did it get taken care of? I don’t see a post in the Spammers thread from any time recently.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a reputable vehicle shipper that could move a VW ID.4 from Austin, Texas to Buffalo, NY area? Thank you

I sure hope the discount is offsetting that, that is NOT a cheap movement @ ~$1,500.

It’s a vehicle where we are mid-lease and we are moving unfortunately. I don’t see any easy way to get out of it because it’s VW, so non-transferable basically. The lease is until 2026. I read that EV sales are down so probably can’t sell back to dealership without a loss. I also need to keep it through early next year because of the terms of the TX EV lease grant and we are moving before then.

Roger that. I suppose driving it up isn’t an option? :eyes:

I’ve more or less made that drive before and it wasn’t too painful even relying on EA.

It’s the one with the worst battery life and we would be moving it during winter

Yeah, that would make it a bit less appealing. Have you already priced out snow tires?

No I haven’t figured out anything yet lol. Also not sure how much it is going to cost me to re-register it in NY state.

I was looking at doing a Penske truck rental with car dolly but it wants minimum 22ft truck, that seems like a bear to drive with a car dolly added on behind, that’s basically like driving a semi.

You did that drive over the summer in a Tesla. That’s a little different. :stuck_out_tongue:

Check Uhaul, they let me use a dolly with a 20ft, im sure they would also allow it for a 16 since its basically the same cab.

Spring also – In a Tesla as well as in an iX yes, but both those times relying on EA chargers.

No VW option to use Tesla charger yet :sob:

Ten years ago I rented a 16’ truck and full car carrier from Penske to tow a 2009 Saturn Vue from Florida to California. An ID.4 probably weighs a few hundred pounds more and Penske might have changed policies since, but it worked then.

I think the ID.4 weighs slightly over 4000lbs and this is why the Penske 16ft truck is not working, it has a 4000lb weight limit. Which does seem low.

Does anyone else have a recommendation for a company to move this vehicle? I requested a quote from Dispatch Dudes and never got a response. Thank you.

I’ve used door to door transport several times. They just post it on central dispatch board and have transporters bid on it. Can usually negotiate price

I’ve used Dispatch Ray a coule times. He charges a flat $70 to post on Central and his communication is pretty good to ensure the drivers are insured etc. bc there are a lot of transport scams lately.

We should have a stickie for this! @mods ?
