Yes, forgot to update.
I ended up purchasing the Prius Prime Premium, actually. The reasoning was that it was a cheaper car, but there were several other factors, the main one of which was lack of choice.
You see, RYR requires you to stick to the dealerships they have agreements with and who are listed on their website. It’s not very many which really limits your ability to play the dealers against each other and this just takes away your buying power. For example I was trying to get either the Ioniq or VW e-golf but there were only two VW and two Hyundai dealers that did RYR and they knew this. So they wouldn’t budge from MSRP and the Hyundai dealers were even jacking up their prices by almost $5k.
They do however have 5 toyota dealerships that they work with so after much frustration with the other dealerships I decided to go with the prius prime. It was definitely not my top choice, but hey I’m just looking for a car to get me through to the model 3 and the prius prime premium actually has a really nice interior (pretty important for me) at a good price.
The federal rebate is less on this car (PHEV) so I miss out on less of it. However the RYR incentive remains the same (whether PHEV or EV).
I decided on purchase since it would allow me to sell the car should the model 3 come around. I realize I would have to forfeit the CVRP if I did this (you need to keep it for a minimum of 30 months) but I figure I can at least break even. I got the 7500 RYR, 750 college grad incentive, failed to get the Uber drive incentive but got the 0.9% APR special that toyota have going on. Will have to apply for federal rebate come tax time (around 3k, which is my tax liability) and CVRP will be 3500. Selling price of the car was 27k.
PS. Just FYI anyone trying to do RYR. Having been through it - I don’t think it’s worth the hassle. I don’t know what it is but the people running this thing are giving out maybe 1 rebate per month or something like that. It’s quite ridiculous. I waited 7 months to get a response. After you secure a deal, it takes them at least a month to retrieve the money from the state. So I’m waiting now. Given the restrictions I was placed under in what I could and could not consider for a car, I am in serious doubt whether this thing was even worth going through.
