Broker & Pre-Delivery Inspection - what to expect

Edit: don’t want brokers thinking I’m high maintenance :face_with_tongue: Started thread to see what to expect. Got great feedback, including a reminder that someone from the dealership is still involved.

I think in every purchase/lease transaction I’ve done, there’s always been at least one “we owe” for a delivery issue. Sometimes minor (small scratch/dent), sometimes bigger (missing items).

For an out of state transaction, what sort of pre-shipping “inspection” would you expect a broker to do for a $50-60k car? Anything beyond a quick walk-around video before it goes on the truck?

Yeah, this shouldn’t be needed, because the dealer should be doing their own PDI properly. But this site wouldn’t exist if dealers did everything we expected

I know the bar would be much higher for a supercar, but I don’t want to have this experience…

How close is the broker to the dealer that they work with? Many brokers on here live in one state and have a partner dealer on the other side of the country.

I think you could ask the salesman at the dealer to do a quick video and for example if it comes with a charging cord or floor mats to please video those in the vehicle.

I am not sure it’s reasonable to have the broker to do all this, while it sounds great in theory it isn’t as practical as it sounds. The transport truck may be loading at night or 6AM…it may have a delay in getting to the dealer due to traffic. Obviously this is just my opinion on this one & others may disagree.

Great points. In my case, broker happens to be based in same area as dealer. I assumed truck would have to pick up when the dealership is open, otherwise how are they getting keys?

I’m trying to NOT be unreasonable  which is why I wanted to understand what to expect.

This seems concerning, I don’t have that like 99% of the time.

There’s no way it’s just a “me” thing :stuck_out_tongue:

Car forums are filled with multi-page pre-delivery checklists that some nutty people go through. I’m not that guy.

As far as missing items, I’ve seen many threads where people have encountered similar things. Maybe more common for EV’s, since they tend to include things that aren’t explicitly called out on the window sticker (like portable chargers or adapters)?

All those respond and no update from the op whether he signed or not :stuck_out_tongue:

More of a Tesla thing

It’s mental to not have a checklist with Tesla.
