BMWFS Lease Assumption Process and Timeline

It takes PFS more time to just send a credit app than it does for BMWFS to do a whole transfer.

Gonna get weird when VW realizes their last remaining brand of value is decaying as well…

These other states have it good - spent nearly 4 weeks doing my CA to CA transfer… :face_exhaling:

Not surprising.

CA to anywhere takes forever. They have to request the physical title from California, which takes the state eternity.

Yep… as I discovered with this transfer. I find it interesting that BMW has to request physical title but GM lease transfers don’t have that requirement. Wonder where the difference comes from.

I’m not smart enough to know, but I’m guessing it’s for the same reason that GM only allows same state transfers.

Oh yeah good point - forgot about that LOL

Clearly you’re smarter than me for thinking of that

It takes CA DMV more time to just find a working typewriter and to choose which carrier pigeon to send a title with than it does for BMWFS to do a whole transfer.

That’s about 1/10th what it’d be going the other way CA to XX.

BTW, ran into a rare snag with BMW on Fri 10/31: started Stage 1 early am but they never sent anything out until I called them later and they had to push it thru. Blamed on some technical glitch. Got and completed Stage 2 today (Monday). Now, going into hibernation waiting for CA DMV.

Apparently, CA DMV processes titles in batches. Getting on board towards the end of the current batch is akin to winning a lottery. With my luck, I think I was always a founding member of the new batch on my previous transfers that took about a month each.

Started Stage 1 on Friday October 31st.

Had to rework stage 2 docs on Monday November 1st. - make it Nov 3

Received stage two docs completion November 11.

Completed November 12.

Not too bad for California!

EDIT: STAGE 2 FIXED MONDAY NOVEMBER 3, not 1st

I’ve been waiting for the title to come in since Nov 7 for my transfer in CA, seems like the wait time is always a gamble.

Absolutely! I’m right behind you with my other transfer stage 2 reworked on Monday November 10 (just fixed my dates above).

Call FS ASAP and ask if they got your title and are sitting on it (assumptions closes at 5 EST today, reopen Monday). They got mine yesterday but did not think they would process it until Monday 11/29 when the next pmt happens to be due. One (long) call and done!

Timeline here:

  • Stage 2 reworked Monday 11/10 in the pm, requested title from the DMV same day.
  • Title received by FS Tues 11/25 (no notification of any sort).
  • Called the FS today 11/26 and gave them a pep talk and completed Stages 2/3 today to avoid waiting until next Monday due to long weekend
