BMW Windshield OEM or Aftermarket?

If someone needs whole windshield replacement on leased BMW vehicle, do they allow aftermarket glass or must be dealer glass?

Does it fit?
BTW if it’s a crack, take the lease fine, it’s cheaper

Sadly its up to the point where it needs whole replacement

If your insurance policy covers it go with OEM sometimes they need to request that special permission.

Cant use insurance coverage for this one because there was another case earlier this year

Make sure the glass you get has the auto wipers if you have those. The inspectors do check for that

I believe you would need OEM if you have HUD.

I just had a replacement windshield on my x3 with HUD display and it was an aftermarket by PILKINSON glass. everything works including HUD.

Replacement was $525 including labor compared to $3200 what bmw dealer quoted me.

So if its branded windshield that has similar features as original BMW glass, will it pass?

BMWFS keeps saying if theres improper repairs, then there will be a problem but wont clearly say “No, OEM is not allowed in our leased vehicles”

Exactly… price gap is huge.

Will it pass at the lease return?

My windshield says “HUD Approved” Pilkinson is O.E approved replacement

I am also trading it in now, and dealer told me just have it replaced.

Get better insurance and put BMW OE on it

No such thing as pilkinson.

Maybe you mean pilkington?

Here’s the replacement windshield.

yea thats what i meant. thanks

Wow you got an ez kool windshield. Probably stays cooler now.

I thought only BMW glass is OE?

Is there a list online where I can find OE Approved brand glass?

I don’t know if there is a list of approved aftermarket windshield, but this is the best company for any glass in aftermarket world.
Pilkington is oem brand for Honda windshields.

If you have an OEM endorsement on your insurance policy it will be covered. Most do not, and aftermarket approved glass is fine for vehicle turn in. The price difference is huge. If paying out of pocket just put in what works. Glass has gotten so expensive to replace if the vehicle as HUD or anything that needs to be recalibrated (cameras or sensors). Most of the bigger glass companies can recalibrate now, but prior to this you had to replace the glass and make a separate appointment with the dealer for recalibration. Some dealers were charging around $1,000 just to recalibrate.

Aftermarket glass was fine on my F10 lease return (with rain sensor and HUD), and all features worked…
