BMW Dealer says my custom order is no longer mine unless I pay more

,

I know everyone’s situation is different, but no way in hell would I be able to stomach continuing to do business with that slimy dealer.

doesn’t matter the times or the situation, it’s unacceptable and middle-finger-worthy.

I forgot I would also file a complaint with BMW NA.

Yes it is, wise advice to forget this market if he can wait. Either way I wouldn’t buy this car from the dealer. Maybe next year OP could put in an M4C custom order and walk when it arrives lol.

There’s technically nothing stopping a customer from doing this.

At least in New Jersey on a BMW (not sure if this is state or brand-specific) they’re not able to take a non-refundable deposit even on a custom order. I suppose from that perspective the dealer could do the same if they find it beneficial to do so. It’s just not indicative of a luxury dealer to ask for more money or leave a customer without a car with a deal in writing.

Thanks for the insight , didn’t know this.

I suspect that it is not worth your time to contact BMW NA. They only tell you that head dealership is independently owned and to contact the dealership.

That’s what they told me when the local BMW dealership returned my car looking like a golf ball after at hail storm at their location when it was there for service.

What ultimately ended up happening? Usually if a car is damaged on their lot they should go above and beyond fixing it.

I dont disagree, BMW NA is hands off most of the time, I would still just do it. Doesn’t take much time. BBB complaint the dealers really don’t like. I would file the complaint and send the GM who was unhelpful a copy and tell him “I’m just getting started”

It took forever but they finally sent their insurance adjuster and paid for PDR. The dealership said that “yes there was a hail storm but your car was not affected “. SMH

Yes BMW NA said that it’s out of their hands as they are independently controlled. I understand, but I also have to believe if enough complaints come in, it warrants them to actually look at it, so let me just add it to their complaint list.

I’ll be following up, like others have said to BBB and AG. Yes, probably like calling BMW NA won’t do much, won’t probably get the car anyways, but if it brings it closer to peoples attention then that’s the best I can do. Will move on from this, and see how the market pans out.

Any brokers working with a reputable dealers for a MY22 M340i build? Lol

Yes, I can still work with the car at 6% instead of 9.5% off but it’s just principle. If I take it at 6% it lets them know they can f’ around their customers.

I’m surprised they would pull that since it’s a custom order. It’s a risk for them since the car is made already. Maybe they have another buyer willing to pay more.

If you chose unusual options and color (like if you asked them to mix all the leftover paint), I would call their bluff and tell them good luck selling the car.

I wouldn’t do business with them out of principle. They probably will turn around and sell it for MSRP, but you’re likely to get a similar or better deal by EOY once supply catches up.

I’ve read that the LCI version of the 3-series will likely have a much bigger and improved infotainment system, so something else to keep in mind. There are some cheap leases on EVs like Chevy Bolts you could jump into to hold you over until next year.

Completely understand, and totally respect that you’re taking a stand for what’s right.

Your case would be much stronger if the original order sheet had “9.5% discount from MSRP” or “Dealer agrees to selling price of $58,358” scribbled on it. Unfortunately an order sheet only showing MSRP and a broker texting DAS and monthly payments without any terms referenced makes it easier for the dealer to pull these shenanigans.

Don’t know the specifics of your deal, but I’m guessing the discount reduction bumps the monthly up by $70 or so. That would be ~$2,500 over the 3-year term. Not chump change by any means.

If the broker refund was $500, that still leaves you $2,000 in the hole vs. original plan. If being “carless” until a replacement can be sourced inconveniences you less than $2k, by all means, keep up the fight!

Yeah thanks for that, luckily we have one car just shared between my wife and I that we got from a another broker here. She’s on maternity leave (just had our son 2 weeks ago) for the next couples months so we’ve been doing okay for now, at least till when I need to go into the office and she’s back at work near the end of the year.

Don’t forget to blast the dealer on google reviews/yelp. Drop the names of your sales guy, sales manager and GM in there if those are the folks you’ve already reached out to and told individually by each that 6% or no dice.

Ehhh

Salesman has literally no say in that

They want the deal and there’s no reason to hurt them

They’re probably upset to lose a deal especially if they’re paid on a flat and not gross

Probably true, but salesman didn’t make an effort to reach out to me even after leaving a message for him to call me back ASAP, instead GM just called me, haven’t heard back from CA at all.
