Hows the drive on the Carnival? My research indicates that although the Sienna gets great mpg, its pretty sluggish, whereas the Carnival is a bit peppier but gets lower (non-hybrid of course) mpg. Also, I know a Sienna is a Toyota, but am still leary of a CVT, which is one of the reasons I initially gravitated toward Carnival.
Also, how has the interior of the Carnival held up over those 30k miles? And which color interior did you get, if I may ask?
I definitely like the look of the Carnival and Sienna best of the big 4.
My complain with Sienna is the heated steering wheel is only available for platinum trim in US (it’s available on all trim in Canada). It seems Carnival is also similar, heated steering wheel only available at the highest trim. What the heck are they thinking? Heated steering wheel should be standard these days.
The carnival blows the sienna out of the water in every way except fuel economy.
The only interior issue we have had is the door handle broke, but its being replaced under earranty. Otherwise, we have the black seats with lighter panels and it’s held up great.
Odyssey is fine. Some owners have issues with the variable cylinder management (VCM), but there are many high mileage examples with nothing but routine maintenance done.
I wouldn’t let reliability concerns be a con against the Odyssey. Save that con for the Pacifica PHEV
Just my pure guess. The initial supply will definitely be tight but it won’t be impossible to buy one.
Check out Telluride MSRP dealerships in your x-hour radius. Several lists float around the internet. I think there’s a good chance some of them will also sell Carnival HEV at MSRP if you don’t mind waiting a bit.
Aside from opinions does anyone have any numbers on leasing?
Sienna lease or finance looks horrible. It looks like they sell every one they build. The best deal I could find was at MSRP. I would purchase this if I found a good deal for a Platinum. The torque of the hybrid feels good off the line, but falls off quickly. Unfortunately, the Sienna does not offer an occupant camera (even the Odyssey offers this no excuse Toyota), but not sure if thats important to you.
Odyssey looks good, but that is because of its age. I can find an Elite for $4k off right now, but due to the age and the redesigns of every minivan I am thinking of leasing.
The Carnival is a good option, but I question the long term reliability. The hybrid could be a good option, but I am always hesitant about being 1st year redesign/new model buyer. I would lease a 2024 model, but have no numbers to go on.
Pacifica - due to reliability and Chrysler doing poorly with electronics why would I even consider a hybrid so Im not looking at one of these.
So in the end, each one has pros and cons. what is best for you? I am wondering if anyone has recent Carnival or Odyssey lease numbers? TIA
I have no idea if dealerships are offering incentives or what lease prices to look for. My wife and I are going to drive a Carnival on Friday. We have driven the Odyssey and Sienna so far. Kia’s website for lease specials even says “go to the dealer for our latest promos” not very helpful.
I’ve had 3 of the 4. Carnival wasn’t out during my minivan years.
Just get an SUV.
I’m kidding… it’s funny to see a thread touting minivans when most try to avoid them (although the market is strong for minivans).
Pacifica seemed a bit smaller than our Sienna and Ody.
I don’t like the center console on the new Siennas because I prefer a more open front row. Carnival also has that full length center console. The Ody still has the more open front row and being the cheapest of the 4, that’s where I lean.
Based on value retention the Sienna is your best bet to buy.
Neither here nor there. They could jack up the sticker and pretend to show a big discount, aka the PT Barnum special. Ultimately TCO matters much more than arbitrary line items.
Exactly, Odyssey is cheap now but it’s also cheap when you sell it out since it’s one generation behind the other minivan. Let’s say he wants to keep it for 5 years, Odyssey will have a new one out and the used value of the previous one will crater. Sienna will only get a mid-gen refresh and the used value of the current one will stay the same.
