I can occasionally include my fee in carnival at msro. There’s just no discounts in most vans. They all sell

Ody has plenty discounts

Own a Sienna on 5- or 6-year cycles. You’ll come out way ahead of doing two consecutive Odyssey leases.

Does it not depend how much you pay for it?

You can still sell 5 year sienna for 20k.

But how much did you buy it for ? It’s all a matter of buying price and depreciation

Sienna XLE msrp is 45k. Odyssey lease will need to be at $420/month for parity.

MSRP is not selling price. It can be

This is not covid era. You can get Sienna for msrp now.

True. But we keep on discussing MSRP on this thread when we should be evaluating actual selling price and depreciation. MSRP doesn’t matter

Yes but if you finance the Odyssey at 3k off I’d imagine that would be the lowest TCO no?

What’s the sweet spot trim on an Ody?

It would probably be very close to the Sienna TCO. Financing either one or the Carnival would put you way ahead of consecutive leases.

Arguably EXL. But it’s not set in stone. It’s personal preference to go up or down the trim hierarchy and save/spend more for fewer or more features.

I recommend going the purchase route on Carnival or Sienna. Leasing is going to have better numbers on Odyssey or Pacifica (even though it sounds like Pacifica programs are bad right now).

You’ll find much heavier discounts on Odyssey and Pacifica. I was shopping vans last month and ended up in a Sienna XLE for slightly under MSRP.

The Odyssey is lacking in tech, but has decent materials and some strong family oriented features such as removal 8th seat, magic slide, Cabin Watch camera, etc. I was primarily looking at the top level trims, touring and elite. I was seeing heavy discounts in VA. Elite has an MSRP of $52k and I was getting OTD quotes for $50k flat which reflects ~8-10% discount off MSRP.

No other van will touch the reliability/fuel efficiency combo of the Sienna. Got 39mpg on my last road trip hauling 5 humans, gear, and a dog.

If fuel economy or needing awd is your priority, get a Sienna.

If getting the biggest discount is your priority, get an odyssey.

If stow and go seats are your priority or a phev works well for you, get a pacifica.

If any other aspect of using the vehicle is your priority, get a carnival.

Smart move going with a Minivan. I have 3 that are 2 1/2 years apart and were once in car seats. I didn’t want the stigma of a minivan, but it was a mistake on my part.

Don’t forget to take into account your local dealer’s service department. YMMV, but I can usually get an appointment next day or 2 days for my Tacoma or Highlander. The wait for an appointment at my Jeep dealer for my Wrangler is 1-3 weeks.

I’ve been a Honda guy for a long time. I currently own a 2001 Prelude Type SH that I bought new. I’ve had 2 Pilots & an Acura TSX. The Odyssey is a nice ride, but it is hard to beat Toyota when it comes to reliability and strong resale.

For a comparison point there, I’ve got a couple year old carnival now with 30k miles on it, and I’ve gotten offers about $5k under MSRP to purchase it. They seem to be doing quite well from a resale value standpoint.

Yeah, the kids are 4, 3, & 1. Never thought I’d be jealous of the sliding doors on a minivan! My dd is a 4xe Rubicon (which I’ll likely buy out when the lease is up because I love it), and have the same experience when scheduling regular maintenence (or the regular recalls).

My guess is that Toyota service departments have decent availability right now given they seem to have been behind the curve on production.

Last time I looked (about a year ago), Sienna’s were still well over MSRP. I’ll pay MSRP, but I’m not paying for a $10,000 ceramic coating .

It sounds like the best option is to finance with a sizable down payment, or just a cash buy on any of these? My credit union does 4.9% to 5.5% rates depending on promotions, which I’m assuming would be better than any dealer/factory rates?

Not sure if it makes any difference amongst the trims/ models, but the one non-negotiable is that it must have some sort of active/radar cruise control.

Thanks for all the feedback!
