Best Full Size Truck Lease 2022

Buy the diesel. You’ll be way ahead over a lease imo…diesels just don’t depreciate

Cash outlay on a purchase is significant vs a lease. I don’t plan to keep this truck, just waiting until the EV trucks get to a higher production volume (which I estimate will be 3-4 years).

But, to your point, that’s also why I am going diesel as a lease buyout may still be favorable near the end of the lease.

Cash outlay? Put $0 down

Sorry… I meant monthly.

if you actually need the towing capability of a diesel I think you will be disappointed with the EV trucks. Sure they have great advertised capacity, but the range sucks once you start pulling something. That is the biggest thing keeping me from considering an EV truck

I believe he is referring to the light duty diesel GM offers which I don’t believe has a very high towing capacity.

ah that makes sense. I still think it’s crazy how many people own a truck and never use the bed or the towing capacity

Your right, there are a lot. I couldn’t be without my truck, but I use the bed quite a bit as well as tow quite often. Hoping things start to cool by Spring.

Yes. I don’t tow very much. I’m one of those likes the look of a truck people.

I use the bed for stuff… but no heavy construction or anything.

That being said, maybe I should look at midsize trucks.

Colorado comes with the 2.8L diesel. Seems decent. However, going from a Tacoma to Ram 1500 back in 2014, the MPG was about the same, more space, and better ride quality came out of the Ram. YMMV but if you get the colorado with the diesel, that’s a sweet little set up, assuming you’re ok with the size difference.

The Tacoma would be my choice if you just wanted a truck, at least you get a decent bed for hauling light duty

Nissan Frontier 18m lease might be an interim solution

Luckily some local dealers finally got inventory so I’m test driving different engines.

Just took a Ram 1500 BIg Horn V6 eTorque (light hybrid) for a spin. Maybe it’s just me but it drives better than any full size truck I’ve tested.

The Silverado with Duramax diesel felt like a boat and I had to press hard on both accelerator to start and the brake to stop… the Ram was much smoother and I’m wondering if the electric assist is the difference. The ride is also much nicer on the Ram because of the rear coil suspension. Only problem is there are better features in the LT and I think it just looks better than the Ram. The Ford F-150 was closer to the Silverado in way of drive but that was just the gas engine, zero F-150 Powerboosts (hybrids) in my area.

I think I’m too used to the smaller EVs I’ve been driving.

I’ve driven the Ram with a hemi (and owned an older gen too). The Ram was always fun to to drive for a full sized truck and was very pleasant even with an empty bed. I’m surprised the Duramax felt that way. Plenty of torque in those small diesel engines.

I’ve test driven the Ram and GMC diesel and preferred the diesel, but Ram had a better fit and finish. Personally I will be ordering a GMC AT4.

This forum loves Tacoma trucks because if the price I truly gave them a try but it feels like the are driving a 20 year old truck my 1981 Chevy blazer had a nicer ride and transmission. And my 2020 GMC 5.3 get the same MPG.

In my youth days I owned Tacomas (before they were called Tacomas and they came in manual). Leased the first year Pre-Runner Double Cab too.

Maybe I’m much bigger in my old days but they just seem small on the inside. Went to Toyota today and yes, it still feels small and dated. Didn’t bother driving it because of the interior space.

Oh and that’s another thing, I thought the F-150 and Silverado were huge… the Ram 1500 2nd row has them both beat (I think),

I should actually look at GMC, but I think same level Sierra as the LT will be more expensive on a lease.

I’ve test drove all the big trucks (Currently in tundra) and decided to go with a Ram Hemi. Lease is just okay but ride quality, fit and finish, features and pricing pushed it over the top for me. I think the new Tundra’s are nice but I can’t stomach paying MSRP and the dealer add-ons.

After crunching numbers, the Big Horn Ram eTorque is around the same as the Chevy diesel with less features. The diesel Ram is significantly more expensive than the Chevy.

It’s making my decision easier but I do like the Ram’s drive and ride more.

What sort of numbers are you seeing on the Chevy diesel compared to the Ram?

@cmobley

It’s tough to compare leases but just MSRP wise, the closest diesel Ram Big Horn is $55k, while the closest diesel Chevy LT is $48k. The numbers are closer on a Ram eTorque but again, the Big Horn trim features are just a bit lower than the LT trim features.
