Dealerships by me have 10+, and if you factor in floor plan costs for these as @aronchi mentioned , it’s the equivalent of 20-30 normal cars just sitting on the lot. And when the EV incentive goes away that’s another discount they have to eat. I remember seeing this same process for EQS, getting gaslighted by dealerships how these were status symbols and “maybe” I could get it for msrp. Fast fwd 6-9 months I got mine for like 40k+ off msrp, granted it was a demo car with 1k miles on it. Previous poster is right though 7500 is more immaterial for this given the high msrp.
It’s a little too early for a fire sale as the model year is still in the current year. But I do suspect towards end of this year, there will be deals. Quick check on AutoTrader, over 1,000 new 2025 models nationwide.
As OP, Benz dealers feel free to reach out me for 2 or 3 yr one pay proposals when you are ready to move inventory
Counting on double negative to get you outta the dog house, lol?
What is the appeal for hacking one of these? Is it just to try to flex and look like a tool? Because the driving dynamics of an EV the shape of a toaster can’t be that inspiring
Wife wants a spacious midsize SUV with good visibility and room for rear facing child seats.
It’s probably the best driving version of the G you can buy. The regular version is insanely top heavy for a vehicle with such a narrow track, in a previous life I drove the military version with a steel hatch and GPMG mount up top and it would flip over if you looked at it funny (very bad for the guy manning the gun). The civilian G63’s traction control would basically cut throttle by 90% if it detected more than 10* of steering angle because otherwise the douchebags that drive these would be flipped on their sides every time they tried to turn left at a stoplight.
My guy … to 99.99999% of people who will see you or your wife in a G580, they’re going to think you’re the douchebag. The only people who will not think you are a douchebag are the other people in G Wagens.
That describes everything from a CRV upwards.
Whatever the appeal of the ICE version is.
Some things defy any rational explanation.
The appeal is the inevitable 30 LH score. We’ll drive anything if the LH score is high.
it’s a status symbol. think rolex - almost every rolex is ugly, but they have a cult following as status symbols. people pay for them.
I’m not into status watches either so maybe that’s why I don’t get it.
But to use your analogy, Rolex has a long history of innovation and exploration behind it. The G-wagen was the Jeep of what was, in the 1970s, a quite sad military. And far from being the best tool for the job, nobody chose one when they needed the most capable 4x4 to cross the harshest terrain. Anglophiles chose Land Rovers and the rest of the world chose Land Cruisers. Even OG Pajeros and Patrols/Safaris were going where no one was taking G-wagens.
I thought it was just a status symbol at first too, and thought it was dumb, and then I test drove one for the first time, heard the sound of the closed doors, heard the roar of that engine(granted this doesn’t have one aside from the fake noise lmao) and you drive it and you realize its a special truck. Thing is a god damn tank. Now would I rather have a RR? Yes, but they’re leasing terribly haha.
G63 is the best thing Mercedes makes…
G580 is the _________ thing Mercedes makes.
I leased a G580 in January for 39/7500 at $2271/mo (includes SD tax) which is by no means a deal. But, my wife wanted to try one as a replacement to her G63 as her lease was going to expire in June. She’s also had a G550, GLS63, GLS580 amongst others, and the G580 is by far her favorite. It’s very smooth and quick for a tank. Her only complaint is that the range is atrocious.
Is the 250 range that they say or whatever it is a sham? Also how much did you put down?
We’ve been consistently getting 250-260 miles at full charge which isn’t terrible. But, our Rivian Tri-Max gets almost 400 miles on a full charge. It’s not a fair comparison, but that’s our expectation as it would be nice to drive to Vegas on a single charge. And I only paid $3500 as a cap cost reduction.
SD to Vegas on a single charge?
You’d need a 1,300-1,500 mile capable pack for that. (Accounting for stops and other inefficiencies that come with multiple legs)
San Diego, not South Dakota
Oh that makes much more sense.
