I can’t believe it has no temp gauge, also call me old fashioned but I consider things like ride quality, steering feel, long term engine reliability and how easy it is to work on in a car over what resolution the back up camera is or the colors of the displays
It’s the drivetrain on the RAV4 for me that’s awful. My girlfriend got a 2019 LE after totaling her civic. I honestly thought the interior was alright for a base model, but I’d be fairly disappointed in an upper trim, knowing not much but the seat material changes.
I’m not sure what it is, but if you’re coming to a red stop light (off the gas and on the brake) and it turns green. Coming back on the throttle is the most jarring experience I’ve had in an automatic. It goes into gear so hard, you’d think you were clutch dumping a manual. I hope they’ve fixed this in recent model years, because it’s terrible on hers and apparently others I’ve read online.

The most dated car in it’s segment and crappy interior for sure.
totally forgot about that well thought-out feature. It’s so ridiculous where they put the gas lid opener. You have to get out of the car, bend over, stick your head down by the floor mats and then look really hard which one is the hood release button and which one is the gas lid opener button. They didn’t even bother making the icons white against the black plastic like on the light switches above, it’s just stamped into the black plastic and impossible to tell the difference by just glancing. I’ve opened the hood by accident twice on my trip.
i like the fact there are 3 empty buttons above it too
omg the screen is so bad compared to the highlander, this looks like some 2010 shit
I’ve popped the hood many times at the gas station
Transportation appliance.
Sums it up right there, I think this thread can be closed
it’s a utility to get you from A to B, nothing more. absolutely nothing special about this car
It’s also the best selling car (excludes trucks) by a substantial margin. If I could make a vehicle like that and outsell the nearest competitor by almost 40k vehicles I would too. They are delivering value to their shareholders and unremarkable cars to Americans.
My opinion is that Americans are just buying too many of these cars to make Honda or Toyota want to stretch on them. No reason to spend a ton or get innovative (for now) when the main limiting factor for sales numbers is how many you can make.
I would buy that argument (and excuse almost everything) if this was a $15,000 vehicle.
But load one up and you’re at $50k.
I didn’t necessary mean it as an insult. Bulletproof reliability. Toyota and Honda do have models that are pretty great to look at and fun to drive. A base model Rav4 or Accord or Camry etc isn’t meant to inspire.
I have a xse prime at $5000 over msrp if any of you fanboys are interested!!!
At the low low price of $54665! Plus tax tags doc fee
Things are running through manheim close to $60k. Will never understand why on earth someone wants to pay that.
Except when they aren’t. Next door carport ‘stablemate’ is a Rav4 that’s been in the shop numerous times for various issues. I see she gets a loaner of some sort every time. which tips me off (I don’t inquire about its issues, as I don’t care enough). Also have a friend who bought 2 Ravs, one had multiple issues and after about a year they offloaded it (she now drives a MB), he grudgingly kept his for Costco/grocery/potting soil runs, as he said it sucks for any real roadtripping. He hates it, but too lazy to change.
We have the fully loaded PRIME and my biggest complaint is the rear view camera. Its poor quality is made even worse by the embarrassment brought on by the backup noise, everyone stares. Luckily the car automatically brakes when there are scary shadows behind you.
That’s a bit of a stretch. A very well equipped gas engine Rav-4 is around 42k.
That said the top trim models make no sense. There are more compelling options from Hyundai and Mazda at the same price point.
And the luxury makes aren’t far off. A RDX with AWD and tech package is only 46k (assuming MSRP) That is a vastly superior car for not very much more per month.
