Amazon to enter car sales (with Hyundai)

Amazon will allow auto dealers to sell cars on its site, starting with Hyundai (msn.com)

Thoughts?

Amazon isn’t licensed dealer and will just send those qualified leads to local Hyundai dealers.

They came for our books,
then they came for our Electronics,
then they came for our shipping companies.

Now they are coming for our car dealers?

Nah Amazon is selling Hyundai in the same way @IAC sells BMW. Bezos should just bought the IAC handle on this site for $1bn to get a head start.

Amazon partners with some companies for installation services, and you look at their yelp reviews, they’re typically one or two stars. Hyundai dealerships are already the bottom of the barrel, so I guess it couldn’t get much worse.

That’s what they do now, this seems to imply that you can finalize the transaction ON Amazon and the car will be sent to be picked up at a dealer.

yawn They already did this marketing gimmick with the Nissan Versa; it only generated a lead to a local dealership to follow up on. It doesn’t change anything, and frankly just adds another layer in the buying process.

Is this the new truecar or kbb? Why buy on Amazon? I guess it could be a market but pissed my Vroom pump fizzled out. Down about 5% or so now. Thought would get a pump like in the summer. Will observe this for now but doubt its a game changer for now.

from Reuters:
Customers will be able to shop for, equip and buy a car at Amazon.com and schedule delivery through a local Hyundai dealer, the companies said.

Sounds good to me! Now I can send every volvo customer who wants a $250 payment straight to amazon for a hyundai!

Wow, that’s kinda nuts but also kinda weird. Why would a dealership sign up to be part of this process if they aren’t going to be able to tack on that extra $1000 for LoJack.

volume over gross. The motto of every poorly run store.

I wonder if I’ll be able to return the car after I use it for 30 days
OR
claim I never got it a full refund

I wanna know if you could use Amazon’s “pay with points” option

it’s the same question from years ago why would anyone sign up to be a seller on amazon when all they do is steal 15% from you. The scary part here is that if Amazon is going to follow their usual bullshit, they will spend the next few years cornering the market, and then jack up the prices of their “service” once enough people are hooked (which is what I think @forbs was alluding to in the 3rd post in this thread)

I thought the usual bullshit was to allow counterfeit products to co-mingle with real products. Imagine getting a counterfeit Hyundai car delivered to you haha.

Imagine trying to buy a Hyundai and ending up with a Daewoo.
