Am I screwed? Delear offer to swap wheels off to give me discount

I am in the middle of negotiation and dealer is offering me to swap high-end wheels with standard wheels and give me a good discount on the sale price?

Is it possible to do things like this for the lease? The vehicle MSRP is based on the high-end wheels not standard wheels. They mentioned that they will document it in the lease agreement so that I don’t get in a trouble when I want to return the vehicle at the end of the lease.

Note that they do have a few other stocks without that high-end wheel. However, the want to give me the stocks with High-end wheel and swap them with standard one to give me discount…

I have the sticker label and it includes the high-end wheels in the MSRP. The wheels are installed by the manufacturer and they are not dealer installed. The sales person told me the MSRP will stay the same if they take the wheels out. I just get more discount !

Is it a smoking gun?

I don’t really care about the wheel size, I just care about the discount from MSRP.

Many times at the dealership we would have a 3rd party wheel store come and change our wheels for mercedes vehicles to make some real eye catchers and generate high end pictures for our website. My fellow co-workers and salespeople world sometime forget to notate it or accidentally sell the car off the showroom floor without taking into upgraded wheels and vice versa a car with downgraded wheels sitting out back.

solution: get the monroney label (MSRP) and match it up with the wheels it is supposed to come with from the factory.

Thanks @coolryans. I have the sticker label and it includes the high-end wheels in the MSRP. The wheels are installed by the manufacturer and they are not dealer installed. The sales person told me the MSRP will stay the same if they take the wheels out. I just get more discount !

How come ?

Higher msrp equals higher residual value. If the price of car is discounted even more then the lease will be even better.

That is why I am confused a little. Are dealers allowed to take parts of the vehicle out and discount it further in the lease ?

Then the question becomes - when you return the car, do you need to return with the high-end wheels listed on the sticker or the once the dealer will put on?

I had to buy a car once instead of lease because they didn’t have one with the wheels and port installed Sport appearance package. They could swap the wheels with a low mileage loaner, but would have to swap back at the end of lease. So I got the wheels I wanted on my financed car, but had to take it back a couple of times for alignment

Sales person told me that they will document it don’t want me to return high-end wheel that I don’t have on the vehicle.

What model of car is this?

It is Lexus RX…20 char

I have a dealer offering to do this for me as well. Car comes with factory 20" but he is removing them and swapping to 18" wheels to lower the price. It is a $1000.00 option. Is this something that will screw me when I turn the lease back in? I would rather have 18" than 20"

OK, so it must have the 20 inch split rim which are just over $1k options.

They would have to discount it quite a bit to make it worth while.

They had some discount but this 1K make the deal pop up compared with other quotes that I have. Moreover, since MSRP is higher for $1K. the RV goes up and make the monthly payment lower.

Is it a Legit deal or I will be screwed?

I would rather 18" than 20" too. They have a 4 stock vehicles with 18" but they keep tell me they are all gone…

Well the RV would stay the same, but in theory your purchase price would come down, making your monthly payment lower.

FWIW, I think the 20’s look much better

@Ed_Churchward you are a master hacker… do you think there is something fishi in this deal and I should stay away? what is your recommendation?

I like the look of 20’s too. 18’s ride softer. Better on a Luxury SUV. Who ever thinks a 7 seat SUV is going to be sporty? LOL

I don’t think there is anything wrong, a little odd maybe. If they keep MSRP the same, then reduce more than the price of the rims then you will get a much lower payment.

I would contact Lexus Financial Services prior … 3 years later when you turn in the lease they could bark at you asking where the 20 inch wheels went ?

Or they may not even notice
