I’m in Northern CA (Central Valley; not Bay Area where all the good deals are at). I am already leasing a 2025 KIA Sorento PHEV (which I love), and am looking at leasing either a Niro EV or EV6. I understand the Niro is discontinued for 2027, and I saw the pre-negotiated deal on the other page, but I’d like to deal locally, if possible.
Besides the My First EV rebate in CA, are there any other mfc or dealer discounts/incentives I need to be armed with before contacting the dealerships? In your opinion, are the leases good deals? Do you guys have an opinion on overall satisfaction differences between Niro and EV6?
Any help or advice you can give, I’d greatly appreciate.
You haven’t posted any lease for us to comment on…?
If you’re asking if the Niro or EV6 lease well in general, take a look at the Marketplace to see what kind of deals are being offered (and Signed Deals & Tips to see if there any recent deals).
I’m in Ohio and generally use Southern California, Northeast and sometimes DMV-area deals as benchmarks to model the offers I make locally.
The main measure of a good deal is the dealer discount (before manufacturer incentives), and the more broadly you sample the better chance you’ll observe the full discount potential for your target vehicle.
Sorry, I don’t have any deals yet, but I was more asking if generally deals are good on them, or if I shouldn’t waste my time. I was on this forum about 18 months ago, and got some great advice, so I just didn’t want to waste my efforts if the general consensus is Kias are not worth the time or money.
It’s really hard to say. When you were in the market 18 mos ago, there was the pass-through EV rebate and good deals for an extended time on certain trims of the Ioniq 5 and on Prologues/ZDX/Equinox/Lyriq (and intermittently on ID.4s). So advice-giving was quite a bit easier then, IMHO.
The market is really, really diff now.
The general advice is to first determine, are you shopping “the car” or the deal (ie., are you tied to a specific model and want a good deal on that model, or are you more looking for the best deal w/i a certain category of car?). And then, once you figure out that, doing research to create an aggressive target deal and then making that offer to (potentially a lot of) dealerships.
I don’t have personal experience w/ either a Niro or an EV6, but they are quite different sizes, so that alone would suggest that they are not generally cross shopped.
Good question about shopping the car or the deal. I’m shopping the deal, for sure, but not on luxury EVs…just regular EVs. I started with Kia because I currently have the Sorento PHEV, and I was going to see what kind of loyalty discount I can get. But, if anyone on here says something like, “there are smokin’ deals on the Mazda MX-30 EV right now”, I’m totally open to it. I’m merely looking for an EV sedan or crossover, which is why I looked at the EV6 and Niro, so I’m really just hoping someone is familiar with some NorCal EV lease knowledge I haven’t seen yet.
Relatively smoking deals a few wks–mos ago were on the Mercedes GLB, so, if you’re open to class of car, remember that MSRP and ultimate total lease cost are often not correlated.
If you’ve done a search through the Marketplace and looked at recent posts and deals here, I doubt you’re missing anything significant.

Niro EV with MyFirstEV has the potential to be one of the EVs with the lowest overall cost to lease currently. It’s also a model I’d consider used (2023s go for $23K) given they are decently reliable, along with the Bolt.
EV6 is a more advanced EV with much faster charging, more range, and quicker acceleration. If you do any sort of long-distance driving, then it will do much better than the Niro EV which takes forever to DC fast charge. I’d also consider the Hyundai IONIQ 5, which is very similar to the EV6 but generally leases better.
Depends on your use case and what you value in a car!
Here is the deal I’m being offered (MyFirstEV is included in the Rebate). Zurich Shield is their 3-yr paint and interior protection package. I may be able to negotiate that off the deal (unless anyone has experience with it and recommends it), but before I go back to them I wanted to get some feedback on the rest of the numbers. Thanks, in advance:
Agreed, ask them to remove the $995 in accessories or ask for a steeper discount to offset the $995. They may be more receptive to the latter, and it makes no difference to the amount you ultimately have to pay.
Also get into a habit of proposing offers (e.g., “I’ll sign today if you’ll do $355/mo with $0 drive-off, all taxes included”) and cast a wide net until you find one who agrees to your offer.
Thanks for this, Michael. I certainly will. Would you recommend me “blacking-out” the specific dealership and sending this deal to other KIA dealers (once I get the revised deal), telling them something like, “Here’s what I’m being offered at a different dealer. Can you do any better?”. The other dealers will know this is a legit offer, since all KIA dealerships use the same deal sheet.
Good morning! Three deal checks and two questions below.
Below is a deal check for the IONIQ 5, and I’ve never seen tax indicated twice on a quote. Is there something I’m missing here? The other two deal checks below only show tax once, and the payments indicated are OTD.
Deal checks for KIA Niro Wave and Wind ($995 Zurich Shield was offset by an additional $995 in dealer discount). Second question is why the tax on the lower priced vehicle is nearly the same as the tax on the higher priced one?
