Advice for dealing with speeding tickets?

That^^^^^

$3k saved in speeding tickets (from simply not speeding at a cost of $0) will pay for most of my leases😁

I will take my old man pants off right now after this😁, but it would seem rather unwise to post on the Internet about ones historical/current driving habits and the use of avoidance devices. If an accident ever were to occur, and it was serious, this would not help ones defense.

$3k will cover court costs + impound + lawyer.

If you go over 100 you are “technically” reckless driving, find the right a**hole cop on the right day and not only are you going to jail, so is you car (impound) and your wallet will get crushed too.

These days even an accord is capable of cruising at 100, not to mention the plethora of cars we see on here like the m340, 440s, etc etc. Something could be said for raising speed limits here.

Recently having had the charger hellcat and the e55 it’s just way too easy to get in the triple digits without even feeling it, this is the scary part, 120 in the hellcat felt like 85 in a normal car, the e55 is also sneak fast, 100 mph in that car feels like 65-70 in a normal car.

With the truck it’s easy since the pickup isn’t quite there but even there 90-100 is cruising in a pickup truck that’s insane.

I don’t go purposely playing f&f but I do hit it on the on-ramp and 40-100 happens way too quick in these cars… kinda really the point for these cars outside of a drag strip or track.

Once I get to a certain speed I usually just sit at 14-15 over in cruise control weather permitting on a 55/65 limit road.

So yes the carefulness is there but sometimes the car just straight up surprises you with the massive amount of torque/hp.

These radar detectors are amazing now. Mine has picked up a state trooper easily 3 miles away who was instant-onning his radar. It is funny because I will slow down (for legal reason I am not speeding, just being safe) a mile beforehand while everyone blasts past me then there is the blinding light of brake lights as everyone slows down.

I know someone with an exotic car that sets his speed warning to 115 since over that is impound and jail. That is also why you never admit when they ask you how fast you were going. Just act nice and they will usually take it easier on you.

I keep them in parking mode locally but I turn them on when traveling out of state since they are legal in most states and laser is mostly used in on interstates. Radar jammers are illegal everywhere but radar detectors are legal almost everywhere but D.C. and Virginia. But I always check local laws.

So true, I think the fcc has a ban on them which constitutes state bans and federal fines/ban if you get caught and they find out.

I had speed over 120 set on the hellcat. E55 doesn’t have that lol.

+1 on the Uniden R7, its saved me countless times. In my state (AZ) its pretty rare to see laser being used unless its a motorcycle officer. Most of it is instant on Ka Band radar. There are a lot of resources out there online that’ll tell you what bands are used in your state and how to configure the detector. If you’re going 100+ MPH though nothing will really help, its too obvious at that point.

Its been a while since I looked into detectors / jammers, Valentine One was the best at the time, how does that compare to Vortex and others?

Vortex is a review site, so they don’t actually make a product. He is like the Doug Demuro of radars. Your top choices is the Uniden R7, Valentine 1 Gen 2, Escort Max 360c, or wait for Theia.

I speak to quite a few industry people on this site.

Just sharing what I found interesting on youtube few months ago. On real world police channel. they posted a few videos of people getting caught speeding excess of 100 mph+ in Las Vegas. They investigated, turns out "As long as you actually show up or even phone the Justice Court, you, too, can get just about any Nevada Highway Patrol speeding ticket amended to a non-moving violation. "

OP not sure where you live, I am in San Diego, I’ve used Mr. Ticket, they charge $100 for tickets local in San Diego, a friend referred me and I paid $50 only! they charge travel but they are not expensive, my buddy got a ticket with the court in San Bernardino and they quoted him like $200.
You can try them.

**I saw this item for as low as $419 on Amazon recently, but only through third-party sellers (which BB will not price match)

You’ll have to give us a breakdown in a few weeks. I’m debating whether it’s worth getting.

It appears from reading real life human reviews (and not “radar detector enthusiast” reviews) that it’s more hassle than it’s worth and only worth it if you’re a serious speeder.

From what I’ve gathered it takes some configuration to optimize it for one’s personal preferences, and most people just want something that works right out of the box.

I’m married to a scientist (radar/sonar/signal processing) with a Ph.D. in electrical engineering. By the time it goes into my car, it’ll be plug and play.

I do and it is the best radar detector in terms of performance that I have ever owned. The Max360 was more user friendly and had GPS lockout (I did not use that too much), but the R7 is not hard to configure (it is just buttons) and people post their setting on forums that are easy to follow. I have had it pick up state troopers 3+ miles away. I found mine on sale for about $410 and they pop up around the $400-$425 mark often, so $388 price is a steal. Check out Votrex Radar’s youtube channel or website. Tons of info and reviews on there plus RDforum.com

I just took my R7 out of the box and spent 25 minutes trying to convince my Windows 10 laptop to recognize the device so I could update the firmware.

I downloaded drivers, installed software, uninstalled software and tried again.

Nothing worked.

So far, this thing is a zero.

Vortex has a good video on how to update it. Have you seen it?

Not until you just posted it, but all the video does is walk through the steps I followed on the same Uniden support page I linked above.

At about 5:40 the video shows success connecting the computer to the radar detector. All I get is this staring back at me.

You can’t say you weren’t warned.
