Ok so this looks like a bad deal to me with the cap cost reduction at $7k. I am in GA and looked at current BMW X4M offers and they currently say $999 month with a little over $3k capcost reduction. Also appears this dealer is marking up MF as compared to our brokers here and no discount.
When all is said and done it appears that at completion of lease if you wanted to buy vehicle it would cost you more than 8k to 10k over msrp…
opinions?
To those wondering why I would trade 2021 Macan in on X4 I got stuck with the car after I purchased a Taycan 4S.
Taycan was a lemon left me stranded dealer offered to buy back but had to take a car on lot and get cash back, and during shortage highly optioned 4cly Macan was only thing they had. Not a bad car but overpriced.
That’s an atrocious deal, shop around and shop the trade. Target BMW dealers that have several units to choose from, giving the current market conditions, cast a wide net. If you are a looking for a deal, target models that actually have inventory available, which still might not be possible. Also, did you pursue an actual buyback from Porsche? Sounds like you only dealt with the dealer and didn’t pursue an actual buyback with the manufacture
Tried Porsche but they were no help and based on taycan forums no one was getting anywhere with them so the dealer stepped up. Shortly after there was recall for an electronic powertrain failure by the NHTSA then another for a fairly dangerous suspension issue and then currently something with hazard lights. The car was full of electric gremlins and would not charge consistently.
The scary thing was the electronic failure could get you killed driving the car. It could just die on the highway and lock up leaving you to be rear ended.
It’s funny I’m currently working on trading an X4 m40 for Macan S. Kind of the opposite. But I have some equity in the X4 that I’m trying to unlock. My thinking is that the Macan will hold value better than the X4 when things start to normalize.
I also have a 2019 X4 M40i lease that is currently worth more than I paid for it. I was offered $56k from Vroom and the Porsche has already lost value after about 6 months. I also think there is a lot less X4m40i or X4M in general than macans so its possible the M40i at this point holds value better especially considering the car is two years old and i am getting better offers for it.
Not really impressed by the Macan I think the M40i drives better has alot more options like heads up display more for your money better quality.
I think if you got the Porsche new it’s hard not to lose value after 6 months. Is yours S or 4 cylinder? My X4 is also 2019 and I got 16% off before incentives. I think when these discounts return in 1-2 years used car prices will deflate. Otherwise I don’t disagree that the X4 has better technology and is fun to drive (except I find the seats very uncomfortable for longer rides)
Unfortunately I was stuck with a 4cyl. I agree on the seats in X4 but The X4m seats are really nice. The lease deals right now are horrible. I think we may see used car prices take a huge hit as it seems its getting easier to order some vehicles. Might be a good time to sell and get the cash and hang on and wait for the deals to return if you have a second vehicle.
As far as the Macan regardless of 4cyl or S model there are currently over 2k for sale between the years 2019 and current year VS about 140 2019 to current M40i s for sale.
Sticker on my macan was $66k. Average offer for macan was $56k. M40i sticker $66k average offer $56k after 2 years and 16k miles. When I asked why the price difference between Porsche and BMW they all said X4 M40i was in more demand and fewer of them.
If you search just for Macan S with less than 40K miles there are only 270. Most dealers are selling 2021 or even 2020 at MSRP or even above. Just saw a 2020 selling for 5K over MSRP. The X4 m40 was not a great seller back in 2019 and that’s why we got such great leases ( 550/mo including tax with nothing down for a 70K MSRP). Looks like the best thing to do is buy an RX350 if you can tolerate how it drives.
Macan S or Macan are overpriced low tech cars. I’m not impressed by the S or the base. Same car just more Hp at a significant markup no handling difference unless you option air suspension… It’s Like the R8 V8 Vs v10 argument same exact car diff engines. You could of paid sticker for the X4m or m40i and done better right now according to the trade in values after 2 years of ownership.
Dealers can ask whatever they want doesn’t mean they will get it. the prices im posting are just offers from Vroom etc wholesale your citing retail numbers.
If tech and gizmos are what you are after, then Porsche is not the brand for you. BMW has plenty of tech to keep a 5 year old entainted for hours and that is about how long it will last before breaking.
It is amazing that a car with about 8500 total 2019 sales is doing better on the trade in market than one that sold 22000. But I am willing to be in another 2 years that the brand with 22000 units will hold their value than the brand with 8500 units, especially when its sibling was sold 70,000 times (Porsche sold 61000 total units in the US during 2019 as a reference point).
With the exception of heads up display and gesture control there’s not much in terms of technology that the Macan lacks compared to the X4. And I can’t even see the heads up display with sunglasses during the day.
December was really bad b/c of the chip shortage, but features have started coming back (bowers & wilkins was the big one that’s back in the order guide, though not on the online configurator yet).
Your right my Porsche Taycan did do a little better. Took about ten days until it left me stranded. It bricked like a cellphone.
Looking at the NHTSA recalls on Taycan, Porsche has no business doing tech.
I have owned a few Porsches and really you can pull up to a stoplight anywhere and throw a rock and hit a 911. Doesn’t matter the variant,Nobody cares or knows the difference unless their Porsche fanboys.
The best car Porsche makes is the Cayman/718
Seriously though, so far good experience with the BMW.
The tech I am referring to on the BMW is the infotainment no comparison. Porsche system is glitchy and not as easy to use. Apple car play is hit or miss.
I live in the countryside in the mountains and take a lot of sweeping turns high speed etc BMW corners flatter and has more solid brakes with less pedal travel. The Macans brakes are soft in comparison regardless or variant. The BMW M40i engine has smoother power delivery than even the macan S. Less floaty more precise steering as well. AWD system on BMW is better in colder weather.
The X4m competition is leagues better than the Macan turbo or new GTS and at a better price point.
I have no loyalty to any brand and drive whatever I like. I know there are issues with BMW especially out of warranty but based on my experience Porsche is overpriced and there are vehicles that are just as good or better for less money.
If a 911 is common place where you live, then I can only imagine that BMWs must be crashing and piled on top of each after trying to get over to the left lane without a blinker.
I don’t disagree with you that the 718 is the best but funny enough, that is probably lowest tech car Porsche makes. Navigation, blind spot, and keyless entry is optional.
Every brand has recalls all the time. When I worked for BMW, half our new cars were on stop-sale due to recalls and software glitches. Most of the time, it affects a tiny number of cars but they cast a wide net. The most recent Taycan recall affected a grand total of 11 cars. Besides, I would rather have a company put out a mandatory recall than hide any issues, like BMW does with the N63 engine.
Porsche’s infotainment is not the easiest to use, but if you think Carplay will be any easier in the BMW, do I have news for you. I had three different phones when I had my M4 and CarPlay would randomly not pair, freeze, etc. Our geniuses probably spent half their day fixing Carplay issues after phones randomly unpaired, frooze, etc.
Everyone’s butt dyno is calibrated differently, but I would rather have a Macan GTS over any X4 variation. BMW makes the suspension artificially stiff to give the feel of “handling” and “sportiness” while there is still plenty of body roll. Also if you think the steering is better on a BMW than a Porsche, then there is no hope for you. Steering feel is the #1 complaint by anyone that drives a BMW. Porsche has gotten the closest to replicating a hydraulic steering while BMW is still trying to figure out how to make an electric steering rack. However, the steering feel is excellent in the F8x and M2.
