BMW knows how to make an electric steering rack just fine. Blame mainstream customer feedback:

JMO, while older BMWs had amazing steering feel, sometimes you just want a car to shut up and get you home w/ a minimum of fuss when you’ve had a tough day at the office (depending on your personality). So I can understand why BMW made such changes to their mainstream cars.

Of course, it also means (for me) that there is little compelling reason to get a BMW, unless BMW is heavily subsidizing the lease… Although I may change my mind if BMW ends up being the only German car manufacturer that continues to use knobs and dials for controls. :stuck_out_tongue:

What’s the price on the X4M?

Of course the Bmw is more common than the Porsche… but for the $$$ for a well optioned 911 you can get and R8 or an NSX much more interesting cars. that was the point,

11 Taycans??? What are you reading? look at NHTSA recalls …

43k taycans were affected on that issue alone. Not including the suspension recalls and various other issues. Even after the updates issue is still ongoing. visit a Taycan forum sometime.

The butt Dyno comment is strange Because according to road tests the X4m competition is always quicker than any variant of the Macan period.

Clearly your a Porsche fanboy. Sorry you got so butthurt over the comments.

The steering feel you speak of is absolutely true for the 911 and cayman bu not for the taycan or macan just floaty and numb.

Just remember if you do own that Gt2 rs that’s in your Avatar no one cares or can tell the difference between a carrera and GT2 other than Porsche fanboys.

The NSX was a flop and a similarly priced 911 Turbo beats the R8 in every measurable way. The Turbo S is the fastest 0-60 ICE car you can buy. Your average consumer will have a hard time differentiating someone who slapped a couple M badges on a X4 30i and a X4 M. I always see a few M320s or M530s every day on my commute with base wheels.

I am reading stuff you don’t have access to, hence my flair. But again, I would rather see a manufacturer put out a recall for an issue than hide an issue like BMW has done with their V8 engines.

I am a German fanboy first and foremost. I have owned 2 BMWs, 2 Audis, 1 VW, and 0 Porsches, although the first is a few months away. But I have plenty of seat time and experience on and off the track with BMW or Porsche to tell the difference in driving dynamics. I think BMW provides an amazing value compared to their rivals when you factor in performance and tech, but they have moved more recently to be a German muscle car brand than precision driving, which is where Porsche shines.

And of course the X4 M will be faster in a straight line with 70 more hp, so will a Tesla Plaid but I don’t want one of those. X4 is only 0.2s faster to 60 (that’s a tiny difference for an alleged 70 hp difference) and the braking distance is a 1 foot difference according to Car and Driver. .98g on the skid pad for the GTS vs. .97g for the X4 M, so the Porsche will corner slightly better, which you want on those twisty roads. Plus the X4 weighs 200lbs more and has a longer wheelbase; all bad for handling and dual clutch vs. ZF auto. But like I said, BMW does tech and gadgetry better than Porsche. Your average consumer cares more about that than performance metrics. But you want the best drivers car, you go to Weissach, not Munich.

I think you need to find an NSX and drive one. The last release NSX type s sold out in a day.

The Audi R8 is an event every time you drive it and you don’t see yourself coming and going everyday.

I have driven both, although not the type S. Type S only has 350 units globally, so not surprised it sold out when the market is crazy. The R8 is an amazing car and great value since it is basically a Huracan, but I would still rather drive and own the Turbo S.

Me reading this thread trying to determine which one I would buy if I could…Turbo S or X4M…

If you look at the residuals BMW is basically telling you how much the X4 will be worth in 3 years - mid 50s % vs 60% for the Macan. That being said I tested a X5 m50 yesterday and was blown away. If I could get this discounted enough to get close to my Macan S build I would get the X5 without hesitation.
