I was in hotbed part of the world and came across 2021 model. I was convinced that someone was misinformed when calling this MY21. Turns out, I was the misinformed person. This is apparently LC 70 series. Toyota has yet to refresh for last 40 some years. They advertise AC and CD player as one of the feature… and it costs fortune. Apparently it is loved by “NGOs” … cough cough 3 letter agency .
If you see someone driving this. Careful of your surrounding haha.
Pricing announced, First Edition is kinda crazy at $75k before destination. The base 1958 trim is good value at $57.5k with destination. Hope I can land a 1958 and not a First Edition…
So $60K for the base model with cloth seats, hard plastic and the only thing you get is reliability?
$75K for the highest trim you might as well look at Lexus GX.
I wish I could see into the future to see how this 2.4T hybrid platform works out. Is this the setup they’re using in the Toyota Crown? Do they sell enough of those for there to be appreciable data yet?
Once you pass the 1958 trim, even the mid-level ‘Land Cruiser’ trim is within $2-3k of a base GX550 Premium with an MSRP of $64,250. The trade-offs seem to be going to the V6 in the GX, but you get a power tailgate in the Land Cruiser… I think I’m missing a few things, though, but the GX550 Premium feels like a no brainer given this pricing.
Ehh not quite, mid-trim LC is similarly equipped to the $70k Overtrail trim of the GX so it is still about 15% cheaper. As for the base trim, it is still 15% cheaper than the cheapest GX and still has a locking center and rear diff with a full-time 4wd system so all the off-road goodies for under $60k plus the significantly more efficient hybrid powertrain. They will probably be sold for a markup for a good long while…
Ah I forgot the comp is to the Overtrail model. Maybe this reveals that if I were a buyer, this thing would be mostly a mall crawler / the occasional national park trail, so a GX550 Premium would be more than enough…
That is probably the use case for 90%+ of the buyers (including myself). I think we love buying the cars for their potential and feel good about what they can do in extreme but very rare/unlikely situations. I have a BMW M2 that is pretty much track-ready out of the box and I have only taken it to a racetrack once so far. Granted I mainly bought it because it is the cheapest manual transmission BMW one could buy new today and not for tracking it but still I have bought a track-ready car for dailying it.
If you are asking about the G87 M2, then yes. I love mine, feels special and gets of lots of positive attention everywhere. 6MT makes every drive an occasion. It is reasonably quiet and comfortable for a daily but the ride is definitely on the firm side even with the suspension set in comfort.
If you are asking about the new LC, then no one is getting 6% off on that for a while so your question is purely hypothetical
