2022 Tesla Model X Plaid. Help!

I purchased it cash with 2k miles 28 months ago. It now has 35k miles. I had it wrapped as soon as I got it so paint should be pretty pristine.

Based on the asking pricrs I see on offerup and facebook marketplace I think I could get at least 60k for it. However Tesla only offering around 39k and I don’t think it makes sense to go to Carvana or Carmax.

Thoughts? Would really like some guidance with this since I already lost allot of money with this one. Was thinking of selling myself but I don’t know all that would go into that and what the process like so that i don’t get scammed.

Thanks in advance.

Unless you go to Carvana or carmax, you won’t have a good idea of what online wholesalers are offering. Takes less than 5 minutes each - what have you to lose?

If you want a quick sale, finding a dealer/wholesaler is your best bet. If you want to maximize what you can recoup, you’ll have to private party it yourself and all that it involves. There’s really no getting around the the bloodbath that 2022 teslas are going through.

Your mileage seems average for the year, and the fact that you PPF’d it (or the “pristine” condition of the paint) will make no difference to a wholesaler. IMO, I’d have written off the PPF the minute I installed it. Really no ROI there beyond personal gratification.

I don’t think you will get $60K but $55K is plausible based on the MMR-

Did you buy FSD?

I did not buy FSD. I trialed it once and it wasn’t for me. I felt like I had to be even more alert with FSD engaged in order for it to not disengage when it felt like I was not paying full attention. And relying on the car recognizing a traffic light going from green to yellow or yellow to red as you approach them from a distance was kind of scary. There were cases where had i not slammed on the breaks myself it would have taken the red light judging by the speed it was going as I got close to the intersection.

I highly recommend this service if you’re at all apprehensive about fraud or process anxiety.

I sold my 7 Series this way to an out of state buyer over the summer, and the KeySavvy seller fee is probably the best $99 I spent in 2025.

This was our fourth private party sale (previous ones were lower-value cars and were done person-to-person with in-state buyers, but it’s likely I’d only use a service like KeySavvy going forward).

If you set the price realistically you won’t have to endure more than one or two test drives.

In fact, I believe we sold all four vehicles to the first potential buyer who showed up in person.

You are right about not knowing what online wholesalers offer if I don’t try. The question is which one do I go to first so their offer sets the bar? I ask because I realized the last time I sold a Tesla to a private used car dealer that they knew exactly how much carvana and carmax and even a toyota dealer offered me. Apparently they all have access to see that. Supposably the only one they can’t see is what Tesla offered.

If I do go to one is it better to do it online or take the vehicle in person?

Well if it’s as easy of a process as you say it sounds like a no brainier for that fee. Thanks for sharing.

Whichever one is fine. No need to over-think it. Personally, I’d have done all the online ones by now - Carvana, carmax, KBB, GMTV, etc.

there is no “benchmark” you are setting by just getting a quote - it’s whoever thinks your car is the most sellable and will offer the most. I had a ‘22 MY with 30k miles on it and there was a $4k spread between the lowest and highest offer.

edit: here you go, have fun

Keep in mind that asking prices have little bearing on sale prices.

there is nothing stopping you from asking $85k for your X. There’s a lot stopping people from buying it for that.

AutoTrader also has an excellent system to help facilitate private sales. Check there to see the average price for similar vehicles, and if you don’t mind letting a few people test drive, you can post there and then get whole deal done via them. They will broker and handle all the paperwork too.

Otherwise, if you just sell your car to Carvana/Carmax you’re probably leaving $5K on the table. But maybe it’s worth it to avoid the headache and time of doing it yourself?

Thanks for that tip. Didn’t know Autotrader helps broker the deal. I don’t want the headache but I can’t afford to leave any more money on the table. I purchased the Tesla cash and already taking a blood bath. Trying to cut my losses as short as possible.

Keep the Tesla.

It’s frustrating. The reality is most new cars take their biggest depreciation hit in the first few years. You’ve already absorbed most of that drop, so selling now would just lock in the loss. If the car still works for you, holding onto it longer is often the better move and helps spread that depreciation out over time.

Too late for that. Already jumped on a lease for a kia ev9 2 days ago. Don’t have space or use for the tesla anymore.

I was in the market for a 2022-23 Tesla Model X AWD or Plaid. Budget was around $45-50K and maybe up to $55K max but only wanted to pay on the high end if it was a 2023 with HW4.

Problem is, I ran the numbers and math. Pay $55K and finance at 9-10% rates, 72 month term, payment of around $1000-1100/mo, after 2 years the car will be 6 years old, worth around $30-35K while my loan balance will still be $43-46K considering the heavy interest I’m paying, and I’m already in the hole $10-15K if I want to sell.

So I’m about to sign a lease deal for 2026 Cadillac Vistiq 6 Seater version at $709/mo with $2995 due at signing, 24 month lease, 10K miles yearly.

To check around for highest offer on your Tesla, go to TruCar online, try Cargurus because they send your offer to multiple dealers and you will get offers from all of them. Then call them up and maybe get them to negotiate against one another to offer you a higher number.

Carvana and Carmax are cool too but you will likely get a local big time dealer who will offer you the most.

Otherwise, join the Tesla Facebook groups and post it there for sale.

Would you take 55k? Where are you located?

Yes. I am in Miami, Florida (Doral)

What color exterior and interior? Do you have any photos? And do you currently have a warranty that could be transferred? If not, what major service items have been done, if any?

Nice deal for someone at the right price. Unpopular opinion, but I think we will see a ton of positive equity with Tesla’s over the next few years.

Assuming when you said “wrapped” you meant a color wrap and not just clear PPF, a lot of dealers will see that negatively - they don’t know how the paint is underneath and it costs money to remove it.
