But the general problem that I’ve run into is that I’ve yet to find a reliable source of available inventory data. Manufacturer/dealer websites (and the third party sources that pull from them) are often wildly inaccurate/outdated (e.g. showing an “in-stock” car as “in-transit”, or an “in-transit” car as “pending arrival” when it is actually pre-sold).

I wonder how much of this is ineptitude (even GM’s production tracker updates way slower than it should, which is of no benefit to GM) vs dealers negatively motivated to make the inventory accurate. After all, why not show the car you want as “available” if it gets you to contact them and say HEY I’M IN THE CAR MARKET SO PLEASE SEND ALL THE SPAM MY WAY AND TELL ME ABOUT CARS YOU DO HAVE THAT I DON’T WANT.

But maybe I’m jaded.

I sent repeated ‘reports’ to autotrader about one specific dealer keeping up fake/misleading/bait and switch listings with real photos. Those listings are still on there after 6 months. Autotrader clearly doesn’t care. Autotrader has become practically unusable.

I’ve leased half a dozen cars personally, and assisted others in at least a dozen more. I’m still in complete disbelief at the duration and depth of this shortage. I understand that chips are in short supply (along with other materials), but other industries seem to have somewhat rebounded from supply-chain shortages.

GM’s Mary Barra is on record saying they will never allow dealer inventory to go back to how it was. I’ve also had various dealers from domestic to foreign, say everything coming in is sold and a custom order – if you want something, order one. This is a new normal, they love the fat margins.

I think this current model is somewhat unsustainable, but you’re right. Their margins have gotten a lot fatter with less production, and there are only a few players in the market. With a tiny bit of industry collusion (gentlemen’s agreement), they can keep inventory down so we never go back to pre-covid levels.

Its supplier or Uber. You should take Uber because it is more.

Healthcare does not stack with supplier. You can only take 1 type of “supplier” discount. You can’t stack healthcare, supplier, or education - you can only pick one.

I am looking to buy/lease 2 Bolt EUVs. Any cali dealer (preferably Nor-Cal) here willing to work on it? I asked locally and he is asking $1500 over MSRP which is crazy.
