Have you considered a stinger GT? I just can’t in good faith ever recommend the Arteon with the type of competition it faces.

It’s just so much. That’s a great discoun, but I know the RV is very low.

The Stinger is reverse, higher RV, but higher MF.

It’s definitely personal choice, but I’m not sure how much better you can do on the arteon in this market. It’s not even worth getting anything less than premium trim because the base audio in the car is absolutely horrid.

You know, I’ve been so caught up on researching the arteon and audis I haven’t taken time to look at the stinger. I’ll have to check the mf and rv for my area and see how the top trim stacks up in the morning.

You should pay special attention to the types of lease cash offers on it. At one point the GT2 had 12k lease cash on it for a 24 month lease. That coupled with a 10% dealer discount meant people were getting 52k dollar Stingers for about 38k and were coming out ahead.

Not sure if that’s still the case as this was last year.

Worth checking Edmunds for.

Took a quick look and the lease cash is half as much, however it seems the RV has gone much higher and the MF is now half what it used to be. Very real chance you can get a GT2 for the same price as the Arteon and I personally would prefer the fun and the power of the Stinger over the pedestrian ways of the Arteon.

I’m a big fan of the Arteon, especially the R Line one. It’s a beautiful car and really gets under appreciated. You barely see these on the road either. I had a 2010 VW CC Sport with 6spd back in the day and loved it (can’t believe it’s been 11yrs!)
Was paying $310 a month 0 DAS etc

I’ve been keeping tabs on it on and off but the numbers haven’t gotten really good . Was hoping at one point they would throw thousands in trunk cash on it to make a lease decent.

For me, nearly $600 a month is just not worth it. So many other cars in that price point to jump on.

Do you need the SEL Premium? I believe they have a lower SE R Line that is less equipped without all the bells and whistles.

Have you had the misfortune of driving an SE R?

The mistake VW made was bringing a car like this less equipped from the European market to the Us market and with different transmissions/tuning.

It’s a far more sterile experience, but refined as well. It’s too close to being an Audi product, especially for the money. Fully loaded at about 50k, it is no where near as good as a similarly specced A5 Sportback Prestige 45 TFSI (Audi needs to work on their naming convention) for 54k.

I’d splurge the extra money and get the nicer A5.

Though, the A5 can’t necessarily compete as well with the interior space.

Slightly related, saw an Arteon wagon for sale, used here in Germany, for 57k euros. Also saw a Touareg R line for 99k euros. Those prices include VAT, but holy hell did These cars get stupid expensive… they rival Porsches in price. Insane what the Germans are willing to pay, though the cars are MUCH MUCH nicer than Audis in the US.

Heck for that price you’re basically in m340i territory. Not sure how inventory is for that though.

Personally I drove every sedan under the sun and the arteon reminds me of my fathers CC from a long time ago like someone said previously, great car back then.
But man is it pedestrian as ya said especially for the price.

Stinger has to be one of the best bang for bucks.

There’s always a Camaro LT1 :sweat_smile::joy:

I also vote for Stinger, VW has made improvements yes but the steering wheel hepatic buttons and the main dash layout are dealbreakers for me but very much improved.

Just say no unless you absolutely honest to god need to have this. I can’t fantom paying that much for a vw sedan.

There is one of these on my block and it’s surprisingly very good looking. Really interesting and unique wheels.

But man, hard to swallow at that price.

Check out the “Marketplace” for broker deals.

Although, you are getting a hefty discount, the Arteon is not a good lease candidate given the low RV. If you must have this car, you are better off financing it but paying $40k+ might not be the best move.

TL;DR - Not a good deal. Better cars in that price range.

I decided to take a step back and re-asses. I absolutely love the car, but at nearly $600 a month, its going to leave a bad taste in my mouth. I have a Passat R Line 2017 as a secondary car and will wait another month to see if VW pushes these out with stronger incentives. The one worry is the chip shortage is not getting any better, but screw it, the car is not a need right now, its a want.

The 22 Stinger just came out as well, so gonna check those bad boys out.

Thank you all for your input! Hope my numbers help others make an informed decision, it was a challenge finding leasing numbers on this exact trim out in the net.

Arteon lease for 3k due 510 a month here in CT for sel premium r line. I have been looking for some time. Dollar /dollar not as good as other brands.

Currently stinger GT’s are worse than this. The dealer incentives just are not there currently

A6 is leasing well currently…same money you are talking for the arteon could get the A4,a6. A5 not leasing well.

Since you really like the arteon and they depreciate so quickly, why not go used? This is essentially a loaner with a 20k discount. I bet after three years you’re under 500/month?

So there is a 2019 SEL Premium R Line pre owned for $28,900, 17k miles. I could get it for $32k total out the door, with a 3% APR for 72 months i would be at $486 a month. The killer for me is that I want wireless android auto lol. Gonna keep seeing it drop, might actually jump on it.

I also want the Premium for the ventilated seats. Its the little things for me. The wife loves the led lighting on the 21 model as well.

Does it make sense to do a cars.com (or similar) search over the country for the lowest offers and take you your local dealer?
There seems to be back end money unadvertised by VW that greedy dealers do not share.

In the past 9 months I have bought two new 2020 Passat S’s for $16,800 plus tax, doc and reg.
How?
I followed the process above.
Nobody wants an Arteon (or Passat) and they gather dust, a smart dealer will want it gone so they can put the money somewhere else.

FYI; you will run into dealers that do not understand the value of turning money over (or moron owners wont let them) so keep moving.

Bear

Yeah those are good points, I used cargurus and cars.com for nationwide searches and also manually called multiple dealers. This dealer I am working with is the first to get me within my requested range of $579 a month for 36/12, though they offered 39/12 instead.

They just called me to settle on 36/12 at $579 a month 0 DAS. They’ve been extremely open and transparent so you know what, I’m going to do it.

What a rollercoaster!

Take a night to sleep on it. You’ve bounced back and forth on what you wanted to do during the thread, definitely fully think it through and explore ALL options.

Near 600 a month for the Arteon is quite a bit considering… is it at least 4Motion?

Indeed, 21 SEL Premium R Line 4motion. They brought in a dealer trade with my preferred color.

I priced out the stinger gt1 awd and rwd and I was in the 750s with 0 das. The rwd has an mf of .00102 rv of 51 with $3800 lease cash. The awd was at. 00105 mf and rv of 51 with $4000 lease cash.

Gt2 was .00102 mf with 49 rv. $4900 for rwd and $5100 awd.

I’m at peace with my level of research, and I was ready to walk if they didn’t give what I asked for, and they did so kudos there.

I will be going into an Audi S5 when inventory and chip shortages get better, so for now this will keep me happy!

I couldnt stomach a $600 Arteon.
