2018 Mercedes GLC 300 Lease Evaluation

Hi everyone,

I’ve been lurking here for a few weeks now and learned a great deal. And having realized what a terrible deal we got on our last lease, I’m determined to do better this time. We’re in the SE Michigan area. We have one payment left on our BMW X5 ~$830 including lease protection. We’ve tested a bunch of cars that we’re excluding (Lincoln MKC, Infinity QX60). We also like the Jeep Overland or High Altitude, but can’t seem to get a competitive price (Offers are around $600 for a $52000 model). I think we’ve done a decent job on my current offers, but I’m hitting a bit of a wall in my negotiation and was hoping for some advice. Here is what I am currently deciding on:

Mercedes GLC 300
Year: 2018
Term: 36/15k
MSRP $52,285
Selling Price $45742 (Have not given me specific numbers of dealer discount vs incentives, but this includes a $1750 AMA discount. This is a little higher than their usual discount for AMA but its the “car of the month”).
Total Discount: $7243
Cap Cost Reduction: $0
Residual: 52%
Money Factors: 0.00053 (Base is 0.00114, but I asked for MSD, they didn’t tell me how many applied)
Acquisition Fee: $795
Other Fees (I believe Doc included): $257
Upfront Costs: $1712.16
Payment: $574.33/month
Current Lease: Will pay off $850 final months current lease
Other: Will deliver car to home or work
LeaseHacker Score: ~7.9
Notes: I think this is a pretty good lease at 14% off MSRP, but the model is missing Apple CarPlay which we want but isn’t a must have for a good deal, and we don’t love the Mercedes interface. Otherwise its pretty well equipped with the Premium Package, Multimedia Package, Advanced Parking Assist, Burmeister Sound, heated seats/steering.

Volvo XC60
Year: 2019
MSRP: $50,155
Selling Price: $43,973 (Includes A-plan pricing of $47,437, additional $3750 of rebates details not disclosed to us)
Other discounts: $500 matching from competing dealer which will be taken off drive off costs
Notes: Not including last month lease buyout of ~$850
Due at Signing: $324.64
Residual: 53%
Money Factor: 0.0006
Monthly Cost: $576.64
Notes: Volvo includes service which is nice. Has more features (lane keeping technology, CarPlay etc) for the price. Doesn’t have the Mercedes “brand name,” but we care more about price and features than the brand name. We liked the interface better on the Volvo too.

Overall, what do people between these two deals? We’re leaning towards the Volvo given the similar price but more features. I feel that we might be able to get something a little better next month without having to fight with them to pay our last month lease payment, but risk loosing some of the current month’s incentives. Plus, all this negotiation is wearing thin. Do you guys think we could do much better than this in Michigan?

Thanks!

The score I am seeing here in Las Vegas is around 6.5 for an MB. Not too good

Thanks! I’ve having a hard time replicating (or even getting close to) a lot of these nice deals that folks are posting, but that seems like a tough market in Las Vegas!

GLC300 is a way nicer ride imo. Perforamance wise and drive wise Mercedes is way more solid. Technology wise and ease to use, is Volvo (beside the laggy screen at startup). Jeeps I would pass, since they have bad safety scores. Infiniti is a great choice. Can’t go wrong with the V6.

Any other thoughts from some of the seasoned Hackers around here? Would I do better by just throwing in the towel and find a broker?

I’d go with XC60. It is a better looking car for me and a better value. Read below about XC60 deal. Drop a-plan and get 8%+ off MSRP instead. You lose $750 a-plan cash but win in total discount.

Thanks, I’ll give it a shot with the 8% off. Appreciate the insight.

Start with 10% off. Anything between 8-10% is good.

Thing that scares me is Chinese build and laggy screen. Also very loud engine.

Get real and ditch your iPhone, kid

Well, having driven XC60’s for almost a year, the build quality is pretty bad in my opinion, and I have seen alot of lemons. Materials wears out quick, engine is overly loud (in comparison to the GLC300), and performance is pitiful. The GLC300 is just as fast as the T6. Even the sunshade cloth/plastic is very rough and cheap.

The best ones ended in 2015…

I guess I just got lucky with my first year Chinese production S60 so far. Besides, who buys SUVs for performance? Maybe Phantom

Yes, I have not seen issues with S60. The XC60 is just problems everywhere. Worst in all its competitors, out of the ones I tried. GLC300 was nice, but I think the X3 and QX50 are nicer. Q5 is cool, but seats are too rough and uncomfy.
