2018 Kia Optima plug in hybrid and 2018 Kia Soul Ev

Shopping for new hybrid. Looked at Honda Insight and they were asking for 375/month. YIKES. For 25k car. Looked at Kia optima today. Dealer is out of hybrid. Did have plug in hybrid. This is what they quoted. Seems like huge incentive to offset low RV. Also damn high MF. No MSD since I’m in NY.

Again calculator shows $227/month. I must be missing something.

Which deal seems better?

i love your deal. So i’m looking at it fof myself. I really like it, but I’d like to get the car with the technology package, which adds $5K to the MSRP. I’m in Florida. Could I pull this deal off with 36/12Kmiles, or am I just dreaming?

You can get a volt or clarity for much less. Just saying.

In Florida, I can’t get a Clarity. Are Chevy’s Volt and a Bolt similar vehicles? I’d rather have the Hatchback of the Bolt. You are saying that I could get a Volt at a better price than his Optima? Will he be equipped?

Not sure about the calculator issues…what’s the actual doc fee?

Also, your discount is too low - 5.6%. Cargurus doesn’t have enough sales of this vehicle to show a price analysis, but many dealers are advertising prices around 10% off MSRP (link below)- these could include purchase only incentives, but cargurus isn’t stating that and a couple of the vehicles on the dealer websites don’t mention that. Have you confirmed the MF on the edmunds forum? you’ll want to make sure they aren’t marking it up.

Are your incentives including the NY Drive Clean rebate? And I second @Force, just get the Clarity or the Volt vs a Kia. The deals on them right now are a no brainer if you are looking for a PHEV.

Guess I need to work on the sale price…

They didn’t itemize the incentives but just gave me the total amount.

29 miles of EV range on the Optima or 111 on the Soul EV (which you KNOW will be much less than that most of the time), vs 53 or 40 something (plus gas range) on the Volt/Clarity respectively just makes it a no contest, unless the Kias were free IMO.

So i’m at the Chevy website and I just “built” my Volt. It gives me a MSRP of 41,200. Then to lease at 36/12, I get a monthly payment of $603??? How can I get that $603 down to $267?

It’s not that simple. First, are you “building” a 2018 or 2019? 2018 is where the deals are right now. Second, where are you located? If you are are not in the Northeast or maybe SoCal you aren’t getting the crazy deals. You need to find your local incentives on Edmunds, know the residual and money factor, and search for a car you like in stock. Get a price quote. Shoot for 14% off MSRP before Rebates and the rest of the deal falls into place.

How come Honda doesn’t allow the Clarity to be sold in Florida? We have tons of other PHEV on the road. What makes the Clarity so special? Whats also confusing is Honda has two Clarity’s, they offer an Electric and a Fuel Cell that gets 366 miles EPA.

Are Kias that much worse than volt or clarity? I prefer the look of the optima that’s why…

I chose a 2018. I’m in Florida. I will be going to NoCal for the holidays, I used to live there. Could I actually lease my car in NoCal and drive it back to South Florida? I would just put my brother (who lives permanently in SF) on the paperwork. The thing of it is, is that I’m not really looking for any specifc car, I just want to get the nicest car I can get for the best price. I know that that sounds cliche, but thats really how I’m feeling right now.

I’m sure there’s nothing wrong with either of them, but is there anything that’s so good about them that you would want to pay that much more? If you are willing to put down 2500 or a so wouldn’t you just be better off finding a few more grand in the couch cushions for a One Pay on a Clarity or Volt? In NY State there’s no reason you should be paying more than around 6 grand after all the rebates, depending on how many miles you are looking for. Is there something about the Kia that would make it worth literally twice as much over three years?

Guess not. What deals have you seen for the clarity or the volt in NY area?

You have to do some research. Search the forums. My own Volt deal was 8300 for 36/15k in New Jersey, which does NOT have the extra 1700 rebate that NY State residents are entitled to. I saw someone on Edmunds get a Volt for 170/mo in upstate NY with only first payment at signing for 36/10k. The Clarity has a similar structure for the deal and you get the extra 1700 rebate too. People have been getting them in the 7000s on a One Pay before applying the extra state rebates, so you have a general idea of what to look for. Or just get a broker in NY like @nyclife to hook you up if you don’t want to put the legwork in. Just make sure that the dealer is located in NY State/City, or you won’t get the extra 1700 off.
