2018 Infiniti Q50 3.0 awd 45k msrp 294/mo+tax 39/15k $0 down

Wanted to share my first leasing experience with you guys because I feel I owe it to the forum

Let me start by saying that without HN308 and leasehackr, I would have gotten nowhere. I reached out to HN for some pointers when I was having trouble understanding the lease agreement and he went above and beyond to help me understand on the phone and responded to countless messages. I will pay it forward so feel free to message me if you have a question and I will do my best to give you an answer

My advice: People help those who help themselves so educate yourself as much as possible on this forum and you have a good chance one of these experts will help you

2018 3.0 luxe awd w/ essential pkg

MSRP 44,820
Sell price 34k (24% discount msrp)
39 /15k term
MF .00003
Residual 52%
Acq fee 700
Tax 6.875% NJ

No VPP or corporate
You will have a cheaper lease payment if you have either

Rolled the acquisition fee and taxes into the lease agreement to:
314/mo incl. tax
294/mo if you pay tax up front (standard in NJ)

At vehicle delivery I paid first month + tag transfer (314+380). I picked up the vehicle last night and the sales manager was true to his word and there were no surprises. The dealer was not willing to put the deal on paper when I negotiated it via phone/email on Friday, ending Saturday. So I left work early and drove a few hours to pickup last night hoping he would honor his word and he did.

So far I am loving my new graphite shadow q50. Good luck on your future lease. This forum will save you thousands. It saved me over $5,000 from where I originally test drove the car two months ago

December is over so I don’t think my dealer or anyone else will be replicating this deal for quite some time, but try again closer to end of January for something similar

Matt,

That is great deal. Honestly I was not hoping you will get 34K selling price without VPP but you did exactly the right thing and as I had told you the dealer will not play games at the end when you pick up.

I have leased my car from him and have had at least 10 more leasehackrs get deals from him so he ideally is pretty straight up with my references. Also we are dealing directly with the Sales Manager so there is no confusion about what you discuss with the sales guy who than goes talks with his manager.

Enjoy the car and make sure to help fellow forum members with their queries.

BTW January is not that bad month to lease as well seeing how the numbers were last Jan so this might be replicated in last week of Jan but we don’t know the incentives yet so lets wait and see.

I appreciate your generous offer over private message to send over some gift to me but all I want is that if possible you donate whatever you feel comfortable to this forum so we can all keep hacking deals.

Post Photos!! (2020202020)

I’m considering the same vehicle in the coming months - glad to hear you got yourself a great deal.
Would you mind breaking down the steps you took to arrive at this deal? How long did the process take from first contact, to drive-off day? Any tips for someone who is not great at negotiation?

Any other specific comments on the car itself? Likes/dislikes?

Thanks!

Trud,

I got back from the dealer late last night. I haven’t had much time with the car but from last night’s drive and this morning - I am absolutely loving it

I knew nothing about leasing prior to Friday. Negotiations I’m well seasoned. I had the q50 3.0 sport awd in mind. I contacted close to every infiniti dealership in the tri-state and still wasn’t getting where I needed to be. I think my best quote was 410/month for the 3.0 sport, 0 down.

I messaged HN and he gave me the direct email info of the sales manager. I emailed that dealer with the stock number and asked if they can do 35k cap cost on a 44k car (HN’s advice). HN’s sales manager said he had no more sports but would I be interested in a 3.0 essential. I was reluctant to let go of the sport all the way up until the hour I went to go pick up my luxe, but I agreed on looking at essentials because this was the only dealer that was going to get where I needed to be.

He ended up coming back with 39/15k 369/mo just first month and tags at delivery. That was driven by a 35,500 selling price. This was better than my other offers. The dealer stopped negotiating with me at 35,271 ($355/mo) and said there was nowhere else to go without VPP or corporate. I told him I appreciated the 35,271 selling price but in that case I would have to go with a sport from another dealer. I stated that they were giving me 26% discount msrp (made it up) - backed by the fact that there’s also $275 more lease support on the 3.0 sport trim - which made up for the residual drop on the sport and put me where I needed to be.

The dealer emailed back by asking me to send over their deal so he could look at it. I did not respond yet. About an hour later, the dealer called me and said I cant believe I’m doing this, you cant tell anybody, I cant put it in writing, but I will give you the car for 34k selling price making your monthly payment 294 plus first, tags, and tax at delivery. Had him roll the tax in and you get 314/month.

Process took 20 emails and less than a full day. I hit it at the exact right time. The dealer had about 30 of them left in stock and zero sports or red sports. It was clear these were the units they needed to move. Turning down the 355/mo was scary because I had already sold my car and needed to get to work this week. But I stuck to my guns and insisted upon 34k to the point where I made him believe I was walking. And they folded and gave me the car. Timing was everything. And the service I received picking up the car was top notch.

Comments:

2018 means 18in wheels and redesigned front fascia standard on the luxe which look much better imo than the previous 17in wheels on past luxes and makes the car look great to me without being a sport. I knew I could always buy a factory set of 19in wheels/rims combo if I ever got sick of the standard wheels. Plus, it’s winter and these tri-state roads are unforgiving, so I was cool with not having them for the next few months. I could always buy the new set in the future and put the others back on before lease end.

Fully understand a lease payment and the factors that drive it before your negotiations, as this will make it much easier to identify when they are trying to screw you. And it will make it much easier to negotiate knowing you have all the numbers in front of you therefore there are no surprises they can throw at you.

When leasing, you’re paying solely for the depreciation expense and finance charge of the vehicle. Every other fee is just ways that the dealer pads their profit. Don’t fall for any of their tricks, they are trying to make money off of you. You are doing them the favor. You are taking a unit off their hands. Not the other way around. Say in your opening emails you will not pay these extraneous fees not included in the lease calculation or you will walk. You will have plenty of nasty emails back and/or lack of responses, but you will find someone who is willing to work with you if you are persistent.

  1. Use Leasehackr to find a range you’re comfortable paying by seeing others’ experiences
  2. Go to edmunds and find the base mf and residual for your vehicle
  3. Copy/paste emails to make it less tedious while updating name info/stock numbers

As HN says: dealerships have to sell thousands of cars to stay in business, yours is just one. Let them make a killing elsewhere.

Wow, thanks for the detailed reply - this is good real-world information. I read all these success stories on here, and I always wonder to myself if they are one-off deals, and they are just planting these ideas in my head that I can get X car for Y dollars. I can’t help but think that when I go out and try to emulate these deals, I’ll hit a brick wall and end up with nothing close to deals like this one(maybe I’m being pessimistic).
I’ve recently been considering paying a broker to do all this dirty work for me - does anyone have any suggestions regarding this topic? Maybe I should try the negotiations myself, and if I’m not able to find a deal I like, only then consider a broker? Would you suggest going through a broker to avoid all the negotiation hassles? Or is the main purpose of a broker something else?

Thanks

Even a broker would not have gotten the deal @M11c got. It takes the right car and time to get these super great deals. Brokers can get you good or even great deals, but it won’t be as good as this.

Good for you man. You got some advice from the community, rolled up your sleeves and worked your own deal…this is what I love about this place. For every 10 new members looking for a handout there is 1 who actually learns and crushes it themselves. Props to HN as well.

Amazing deal , and as always @HN308 is the best guru !

Me and friend @njbayek negotiated Q50 3.0 Luxe with Sensory, Essential and ProAssist packages (basically every possible package) and some more goodies.

We needed a fully loaded Q50 in Graphite Shadow color so didn’t push much. But my friend happily signed the following deal as it is his first car and lease approval wasn’t straight forward.

MSRP $50325
Selling price $39144 (includes $3042 VPP)
39/10000
Due at signing $1875
$314 per month including NJ taxes
Date 26 December

Trud,

I thought about giving up and actually did contact a broker. I believe I sent a msg to @nyclife. There’s nothing wrong with hiring a broker. In fact, I’ve never thought they had more value until now. But ultimately, this is something you can accomplish yourself and it will make your lease that much more enjoyable.

You will be able to find a good deal. Even if it takes 20 different dealers. I even spoke to a dealer in Dallas and I live at the jersey shore. Before you start emailing, do these few steps. Focus on your education of leases. Learn about the lease payments and what drives them. Find the highly regarded members and view their posts. There is a multitude of great threads on this forum that will help you get your feet wet. Next, educate yourself on the real-world price people are paying for the vehicle you are interested in.

As you begin to understand the topic further, you will be able to more effectively/confidently word your emails to the dealer. It all starts from the ground up with education. This is one of the biggest purchases you will make, so spend a few days familiarizing yourself with this incredible resource.

great deal. what dealer in nj if you don’t mind me asking?

I drove to out of state to purchase the vehicle because no dealers in NJ were coming close. If you’d like the name of the salesman, feel free to pm me

Baggy,

Thank you for the encouragement and your additions to the community. I think anybody would have happily signed your deal. $30 more or so a month more for fully loaded sounds great. Hopefully, if my commute changes and I stop driving 15k miles a year, I can get a fully loaded next time and make up the difference with the residual increase.

Let us know what he thinks of that sensory and proassist package. Sounds awesome!
